    WITH MY TRUCK!!!! :mad::mad:

I figured it was just a matter of time before it happened since I'm driving an hour each way to and from my spot. Especially during prime time for deer movement.

This is the first deer I've ever hit.

Driving home tonight, I was doing 55 and following someone. Not a mile and a half from my spot, I see 2 does dart out from right to left. One went in front of the guy ahead of me and the other went in front of me. Suddenly, A big buck jumps out after the doe. I didn't want to take him square in the grill so I did a quick swerve to the left (no oncomming traffic) and I nailed his head with my fender just behind my head light. His antlers put a good size dent in the fender and what I believe is a face print and some tine gouges. His body flipped around and slammed into my door, causing some creases then slid along the side of my truck, prying off the wheel molding before finally hitting and cracking my rear mudflap. There was a ball of hair stuck in the mud flap.

The good thing is that my truck is still drivable, has both headlights and doesn't leak anything. Just some cosmetic damages.

The bad thing is that he was about a 135" 8 pointer and I wanted his ass, but some how he got away!!

The sherrif helped me look for him but with no luck. I'll look tomorrow during daylight. I can't believe that he survived a head shot like that!!

Now, some other deer is going to pay!!;)

Well glad to hear that you are ok though. I saw a jeep that was totally messed up last week from a buck. Ambulance was on scene tending to the driver.

And Wednesday night I missed a small buck by less then 4 feet. Slammed the breaks and swerved left just missing him.

You are all very very wrong for hitting your brakes... lol

I hit a deer with my SRT-4 (250hp Dodge Neon). The head took out my headlight, Arse wrapped around, and smashed my mirror, front fender, and door seam. then spun around, and head connected with my door handle outside... I had no Idea what it was at the time. I couldn't imagine it was a deer! My car sat all of 4" off the ground. I always thought that a deer would end up in my back seat or my lap or something. But when I stopped, and turned around I looked for my mirror. I saw the deer squirming a bit, so I put her down, then grabbed the mirror and went back to base. That was pretty freaky though.
I was really hoping it was a yote or something, but I was really glad it wasn't one of the farm animals. lol. I guess you have to pay out there (Free Range Country) If you hit a sheep, or cow or anything. But they don't have to put up fences. IDK, I get it, But I don't.

We saw the aftermath of an old Ford, vs. a large heffer... Not pretty. Felt bad for the guy. But he did a dern good job of putting them both down. lol. The truck was Killed on contact, and the Cow followed shortly after. I'll take a deer anyday.

My sister got hit by a deer too. She pulled up to a stop light, and a buck took out the rear quarter panel of her Suburban lol. It actually hit her. Then ran. lol.

You shouldn't aim for it, but you should aim for where it was. Take the hit, not the ditch, not on coming traffic. Just hit the deer. If anything, hit the gas! lol Gotta get your front end up!

That's actually pretty good advice. Unfortunately it's contrary to all of our natural instincts.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt Greg. Hopefully you'll find him and get some redemption.

    Glad you're ok.

In PA it's actually better for your insurance if you just slam into the animal and much safer for you as a driver. I'm not sure of the state guidelines out there, but the last thing you want to do is miss the thing and cause any damage. In PA you're looking at a 30% surchargeable increase for the next three years.

I feel your pain Greg. My wife hit a young buck last night that took her Infiniti out of commission. Had it towed to the bodyshop today. The whole front is smoked and it was leaking anit-freeze.

    Tis the season.

This year especially, the rut is hitting just when the farmers are getting the corn out of the fields. Lots of stupid deer with nowhere to live. So they run out in front of vehicles. Some friends of mine drove from Nashville to ST. Louis last weekend and counted over 60 dead deer on the side of the highway. That was just the ones they could see, hard telling how many others there were in the weeds.

A little tip I heard on a radio talk show, and I don't know the if it holds any water....

But they say you'll get better reaction time and better coverage if you say: "A deer hit me" rather than "I hit a deer".

Dunno...it was on the radio this week, does it hold merit?

glad you are ok ........like the advice mentioned before , it's better not to steer away from a deer / mainly because to many people get messed up in trying to avoid them / and of course we want to steer away......
