Which way is the best way deer should face when they are bedded?? I know wind is a factor and will make hing cuts for every way but is there a way they will face more often?

They will face forward 99% of the time.

Just kidding, I've would assume they would face the direction that gets the most sunlight during the day if you can figure out which direction that is for each location.

Most times that I see deer when bedded, they have the wind at their back and they are on a Southern facing spot/slope, in the sun in the spring, fall and winter.

I thought people always said to look for sheds on north facing slopes as this is where they hang out more often? Not saying you're wrong just wondering

Sheds will be at food sources or the routes going to and from their beds (obviously in the beds at times as well).

However, deer tend to bed with their backs to the wind as their nose covers what they can't see behind them and their eyes watch what they can't smell. Granted elevated thick southern slopes are a favorite of deer certain times of the year due to the warmth of the sun but the elevated slope also allows further visibility in some cases too.

All depends on the deer but typical things do occur enough to say they're preferences.

I always find sheds on south facing slopes because that's typically where it's the warmest because of the sun beating down on that side of the hill and a predominant NW wind in the winter.

They will have their backs to the most dominant wind direction. On our parcel the wind is dominantly from the SW, so most of the beds face north.

The wind shouldn't determine your hinge cuts and the way they lay. Take a knee in the desired bedding area, if you can see more than 30' after cutting, keep hinging.

I think they usually face downwind, having the wind at their backs if at all possible.
