That sounds like a set up I would go with as well. I'll look at the Spartans as well. New Foundland sounds fantastic. Best of luck. Do you use an outfitter and have your been before?
Yea with an outfitter, they force nonresident to use them in the province. It's an awesome place none the less. My dad is flying in from TX and then we are driving together from my house in NY. Going to be a nice drive that time of year and my father hasn't been to upper northeast coast yet so it will be all new scenery. Can't wait.
Awesome, thanks for the input. I'll be shooting the spartans like you mention and I can add the screw in brass weight and I think ill be just fine.
You're driving from NY? That sounds fantastic. I was thinking Alberta CA for moose. I want to make sure I can get the meet back and looking at outfitters now.
Yes we are going to drive from NY, it's about 18 hours to the ferry and then we take the over night to NL. From that point it about a 3 hour drive to the airport in deer lake where they will fly us into camp.
I hunt Alberta every three years. Be prepared to pay alot to ship meat back. shipping on ice will cost $250-300 per 50lbs. Most airlines will not carry meat unless it os butchered. Some will not carry it at all. Check with the airline. You will need a special permit from US Fish & Wildlife to bring more than 50lbs at a time across the border. Minimum 8 weeks to process the application for the permit.
29" 330 spine Easton HEXX with a 50 gr brass insert and 100 gr point has an FOC of 16% and weighs 400 gr total arrow weight, assuming H nock and Blazer vanes. Plenty for elk, there is also an optimum for each bow (draw weight) that an arrow performs best at believe it or not.
Im all for a heavier arrow. I really don't pay attention to FOC at all but I add my weight up front so its pretty high. I shoot a black eagle spartan with 75 grain weights and a 100 grain tip putting my total weight at just a hair under 500. The spartans really are a great piece of carbon
I was going to suggest this as well. the 2 inch RAZR feathers weight 1.3 grains each and would probably remove 10 or more grains total weight from the nock end over blazers or other vanes. have used RAZR for years and they are tough, but haven't used them through whisker biscuit. I did use regular feathers 20 years ago through whisker biscuit with a much slower bow and they did fine so may be worth a try.
Sounds good. What length arrow and how much are you pulling? I've recently realized I've been Shooting under spined arrows for years because of my length and weight I was pulling.
International is what makes it expensive. You have air ship overnight and pay $$$$$ or the meat will be delayed at the border and unthaw before it gets to you. Being able to drive across the border into Montana or Idaho and then shipping would get it down to the price you are used to. Consider flying to Great Falls, MT. Rent a car and drive the rest of the way. Its about 90 minutes to the bordsr from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Been a few days since I checked, follow up comment to my earlier post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I shoot a 300 spine. My specs are 28" 70# and my arrows are cut at around 27 3/8 and they shoot perfect. I started with the 350 spines but those were too weak of spine
