What length? For trout I have SUCH a tough time finding an UL short rod with enough stiffness. I use a 5' Mitchell that is decent enough, but can't find a "nice" rod to fit that bill for me.
Ryan, its a 5' 1 piece. Quantum had them out probablly 6 years ago and for some reason they cut them out but they just brought them back out this year (thankfully because mine broke earlier this year). These rods are a huge hit with smallmouth fisherman as well as trout. It not only works great on the trout, but its what I use on the stream for the smallies and I have caught some big largemouth and even some nice pike and walleyes on it.
O yea, I pair it up with a Abu Garcia Cardinal reel and 4# Berkley Fireline... it is a deadly combo. The stiff action mixed with the Fireline really makes it is easy to set hooks and it gives me a great feel for whats going on as the line doesn't stretch and the fishing rod isn't flexing too much.
I just got back in to fishing recently, all my gear has been long gone.A few weeks ago I walked around our local Gander Mountain store for like an hour.I was looking for an ultra light spinning rod and reel set up.I kept shaking rods and the St Croix's seemed the best,I kept looking to see if any others felt as good but none did.So I bought the St Croix.I also ended up buying a Pflueger Presidential series reel. How are hip waders supposed to fit around the foot and ankle area? Snug probably?
Kind of snug, but I've tried on models that were TOO tight getting on & off your heel/ankle area. I don't know your level of getting back into it, but for comfort, you can't beat stocking foot paired with a wading boot. Something to check out.
Thanks Ryan, I have been wearing my knee high Lacroose Alpha Burley's.I purchased a pair of waders the other day.I havn't taken them out yet. They are 13's and they aren't as snug as I think they should be.I may return them and go with the 12's.I will check out the wading boot option.
Get into fly fishing and you'll find multipiece rods are necessary. I have 6 fly rods from 9 feet upto a 13 foot spey rod. I'm heading for Alaska for a week of fly fishing on Thursday. Try checking or carrying on a 13 foot rod. LOL I'm not taking that one, but all my other rods will be 4 piece and I'll carry them as carry on luggage. I'll never... EVER... buy a one piece rod. LOL :d I do have a couple 2 piece ones that I'm not taking.
I loved the Fenwick HMG rods until I got my first Sage. Albeit they are more $$$, but I love them. The "Gear" line of spinning rods are unbelievable... coupled with the Quantum Tour Edition reel. I've got two 7 footers for walleyes and a 9 and a half footer for steelhead. 2 piece 5-weight Z-Axis fly rod, and a 4 piece Xi2 fly rod in a 7-weight. Lifetime warranty is also a plus.
