Bad news for my brother, he can't walk after yesterday's practice. He busted his knee he's headed to the doctor tmmrw let's hope hes okay.
In some team duels today. The team went 1-2 to finish 5th. Sam had a good day. 6-0 against last year 5th place finisher. 11-3 against the next weight class up. A second period pin he was leading 12-0. Jake finially got on the mat. A 9-0 win. A 3rd period pin and a ot loss. Over all a pretty good day by the boys.
Bad news. My boy who should be wrestling 106 but got certified for 108. Has to wrestle 113 for the year. Well there is a kid a year older that is a absolute stud. He came Doe to 113. Now Sam has to wrestle 120. He has a big 36 team tourney this weekend. Goes into tourney with a 7-1 record. Let's see what he comes out of ot at.
He made it to quarterfinal match. Lost in OT 5-3. Wrestled tough. Now falls back into wrestle backs. Has to win 3 straight for 3rd. Respectable out of a 32 man bracket.
Well he struggled a little bit in the middle with two overtime losses. then came back for a strong fifth place finish not too bad for bumping up a weight. this kid is going to be tough as nails come the end of the season
Wao wrestling is a great game No doubt bout that wrestling is a great game but i only love to watch it rather than participate in.
I moved from Pax River, MD when I was in 7th grade(23 years ago) to a small place called Great Bridge in Chesapeake, VA. In MD life was all about football and that is what I continued with in GB. Knowing what I know now I wish I had made the switch to wrestling as their wrestling program is top notch, football...not so much. Their program is still really good and the tournaments in this area are usually pretty exciting, one of my good hunting buddies is a wrestling coach at GB now and this time of year he doesn't get a lot of down time in the woods.
hey teejay, do they still come out with the mat rat tee shirts? all kinds of diff rats dressed in the schools singlets(hoops jerseys, pads etc for whatever sport) some state time? used to love them. my parents still have all of mine from over the years! http://www.theguillotine.com/ads/matratshirts2011.html guess i kinda answered my own question best of luck to the boys technique technique technique!
born in Rantoul, IL and lived there till Chanute Air Force Base closed. we got transferred to MEPPS in Mpls. lived in Brooklyn Park most of my life. college in St. Cloud and moved to IL bout 5yrs ago. i get back once a yr to see my folks but thats it. very fond memories though!
Isaiah next time you are up this way, look me up. Just a update on the boys. Sam has improved his record to 14-5. All 5 loses were tough ones. 3 in ot 1 getting pinned when your ahead and a heartbreaker 4-2 to the #6 ranked kid in AA. 4 or the 5 loses arnt in his weight. He's looking good. Should end up in the state tourney. Jake a 130 lb 8th grader. Is 6-5 on the year. He has to wrestle so much stronger kids due to the baby fat he can't seem to shake. He is still having fun. Just a update with the season about half over.
Well an update. Sam is now 24-7 on the season. Wrestling tough. A match tnite, small tourney sat and a duel next Thursday. That's the season. Team sections in 2 weeks. Individual sections the week after.
