well google searching "outfitters in the mid west" I came arossed a some different pages pricing female elk and red deer and other deer for very low prices (in comparison to the "trophy bucks"). Now please lets not get too far into the ethics of high fence hunting...... ya right  Personally Im not big the idea paying $3000-$4000 to kill a trophy animal that has been rasied in a fenced area then acting like your some kind of awsome hunter. but then again I have never been very conserned about trophys. I hunt because I enjoy hunting and eating what I kill. I found a place that priced female red deer at $400 each that is less than 2 hours drive from my house and another priceing female elk at $700 and it included 2 days logging, meals and prossessing and packin of the meat. :woot: I mean it would be about the same as paying a farmer for a cow and then going out and shooting it my self. I love elk meat and there is no way I could afford to take off weeks of work drive out west and buy an out of state tag. I am kinda torn. what does everyone think about this?

Ultimately the choice is yours - I don't think it should matter what everyone else thinks. You're the one paying the money, going on the trip and getting the meat so you're the only person you have to answer to. If it's something you want to do, by all means do it.

I know several guys who have done these fenced elk "hunts" only for the meat. They had a good time and were able to fill their freezer with an animal they killed themselves. No, it's not as glamorous as stalking through the mountains and shooting a free-ranging elk, but it's certainly a step above buying the processed meat all packaged and sealed at the local grocery store.

Despite my dislike for Justin, I agree with him. If you want to do it, then go for it. I wouldn't worry about what others' might think.

That would be cheaper than buying a cow these days, once you figure in the price of processing. Plus you get to have a little fun. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me at all.

I would have to agree with that statement. The only other thing is the anti-hunters have a field day talking about penned hunts.

It's all degrees of hunting. IMO

I have friends that think my compound bow isn't fair game because they hunt traditional bows. Granted they started out as kids hunting with rifles and slowly worked towards bows because they have had so many kills in their lifetime. I just started hunting.

In the end it's population control. If your going to feel bad about this hunt how should all of us feel eating at a steak house? We didn't hunt it kill it clean it or even cook it:)

Enjoy the hunt. It may not be as easy as you think.

Man, I tell you what, there are some Holy Ethical hunters over there on Facebook.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a link to the outfitter?

I used to think penned hunts was a cake walk and never had an interest in doing it, well Last July I had an opportunity to go to texas to hunt inside a fence, let me tell you it was one of the hardest hunts I have done, and it was all worth it! I ended up getting a corsican ram but the hogs eluded me, I will be going back for sure! I reccomend everyone trying it once!

Brilliant Justin! You should have stopped right there!

Brett, the Antis will have a field day talking about ANY hunt. They are, afterall, opposed to any form of killing. We make it easy for them because we are half divided. There are way too many sanctimious folks among us that feel a need to diminish what someone else does. As if sitting 20 feet in the air and killing a white-tailed deer within a target rich environment is some amazing feat of hunting....just saying.

I agree with those above who have stated that it's all up to you. I personally think its a great idea if you're in it for the meat! And yes it's way cheaper than buying a cow right now with inflated price of beef. We just sold some 500 weight fall calves that went 2.05$ on the hoof. Prices like that make your cow elk hunt seem very affordable!

I agree and I, like you, do not believe we should change the way we hunt to appease anyone, especially the anti's.
