Opening day in my area is Oct 1st but in the northern zone it opens the 27th of Sept, so I head up Friday to hunt bear on Saturday then switching gears to deer for Sunday, first mature doe that happens to be in the wrong spot is going to be made famous and getting us on the board, little low on venison and mama loves when I bring some meat home!! good luck everyone!!!
Check cams, had some night bucks and a ton of does. Season opens Oct 1st, but prob won't be out saturday the 3rd. also put up some cams on some new land we are able to hunt on. saw some good signs of deer, also kicked up a doe fawn in the tall grass as we walked around. It will be hard to pass up a doe if one walks by, but we process our own, and it's still a tad warm to let it hang a day or 2 before we head home. but if a nice buck walks out, he will see an arrow. good luck everyone
It's just been so hot here, I haven't gotten out. Took a trip to my land in the river bottoms last weekend. Thankfully nothing was wrong from the flooding. Saw some really good deer sign, so it's even more encouraging than before. I feel like this spot will really produce. I'm hoping we get better weather. It's been 10-15 degrees hotter than normal all of September.
I will hopefully be able to go out next saturday for opening weekend. It all depends on work with harvest in full swing I have been working long hours. Have a nice seven point on camera that just showed up last week and all daylight pics of him also a doe with twins. It is suppose to be 75 here next saturday with a low of 57 at night.
Day 1 is almost over, just over an hour left, but tomorrow I switch from bear to deer! Bring on the slick heads!!
So, here's the story. I had a doe come in and I ranged the tree she was at for 43 yards, she came closer I didn't think she came in ten yards so I shot for 30. Clean miss, she ran out a little ways and stopped. So I shot again.thinking it was a clean miss I climbed down grabbed my first arrow, "yep no blood" went to the second and yep no, wait a sec. Covered. Gave her an hour walked my climber and gear out to the main trail (big woods, long walk) walked back in with my buddy and started the tracking job. BLOOD EVERYWHERE for about 100 yards. Then nothing, I searched that entire mountain side and swamp for any sign of her, after 4.5 hours it was 10:30pm and had to pack it in since we still had a 3 hour trip home. I'll never ever shake that feeling of losing a game animal. My areas season opens up on Thursday so hopefully I'll be able to ease my mind then.
Check trail cams last weekend and have some real brutes coming through in the morning during early light. Hopefully they stick on the schedule for another weekend..Duck hunting saturday morning for opener then will be in the tree sunday morning! Hopefully can put a big boy down.
Good luck to those out. Sorry about the doe billy. To me looks like liver shot, maybe she plugged up and that's why blood stopped. Season starts Thursday, but first sit won't be utilized Friday night. Temps should be dropping, so hoping to have some good movement. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Sorry it happened to you but any bow hunter who says he has never lost an animal either hasn't shot many animals or is a liar. It happens. Good luck the rest of the season.
My first chance to get out will be on Monday even though season opener is Saturday. Hopefully, I will be able to hunt most afternoons next week. Got a few shooters in a couple of my areas. I am ready.
Thanks all, I'll be getting out tomorrow, had 172 pics in less than a weeks time. A few shooter does and 1 buck that's larger than my largest (that makes him a shooter to me). All of the travel within 15 yards of my stand so with any luck I'll have atleast a solid 50 points for us by this time tomorrow! Good luck out there! Be safe!!
