went back this morning and seen 2 bucks 2.5 yr olds. passed up one on video at 30 yds. I think this spot is going to be promising. I am going to hunt a different stand tomorrow to give it a break. I am hunting all pa gamelands.
Thanks. The rut has started here in MI. Small bucks were running does all over. Great night, can wait for the morning Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Got my first bow kill today!!! Button buck. I couldn't be more excited. Roller coaster of emotions with today's sit. I'll post the full story when I get time.
I had an encounter with a shooter 10pt tonight. He was 20 min late. Grunting in bottom. I called him in to 35. He went and busted herd of doe and then I called one of the doe to 10 yards. :/ I have hunted everyday for two weeks. I am halfway through! Sent from my C6750 using Tapatalk
Doe is posted. My Father-in-law shot a smaller 6 this morning. Only deer we saw. hoping to hit the woods again tonight.
Well, here goes with my story. This year has been about as frustrating as I can remember. I had little to no time to hunt with my wife in nursing school, kids, overtime at work, and everything else. I had only gotten out 3 times before this week. I decided to take Thursday and Friday off and pull almost all day sits. The first day, Thursday was warm, windy, and just not a great day for hunting. I saw nothing, and was starting to get really bummed. A cold front had come through Thursday night, and Friday was about 20 degrees cooler than Thursday. I was sitting in my stand, waiting, and waiting, and just not seeing anything. I decided at about 1230 pm to go for a walk around the woods a bit, and since it was windy, stalk. I did this, and found a great area deeper in the woods with so much buck sign, it was crazy. I went back to my stand, and was starting to question everything I knew. I had only seen 6 deer in the 3 years I've been bowhunting, and was wondering if I was even doing anything right. Around 2-230 pm, I started thinking about that spot I had seen earlier. I would love to go in there and try it, but I had a ladder stand with me, and that was just so much to move. Finally, around 245, I decided that it would be my best shot. I quickly took my ladder stand down, and brought it about 300 yards deeper in the woods. I had set my stuff down, tied my backpack and bow to my pull up rope, and went up the ladder to secure it, and tie in. I got all set up, and I realized I dropped my pull up rope. So, I started down, when I see movement to my left. Sure enough, a button buck was walking through. I was mad, and excited at the same time. I climbed down slowly, and hit the last step, and sure enough, he finally saw me. He jumped up, and ran 10 yards away. I thought my day was ruined, but I grabbed my bow anyway, nocked an arrow, and peeked up. He was still there! 20 yards broadside! I kneeled down, drew back, popped up, aimed and sent the arrow through him. I heard the "thwack" sound everyone talks about, and I was beyond excited! I watched him run off, and heard him crash. I knew the shot was good, but I wanted to give him time, so I called my wife, and went and got my gutting equipment from the truck. I went back to where the arrow was, and there wasn't much blood, but the blood had bubbles in it, so I knew the hit was good! I tracked for about 20 yards and then I saw it another 15 yards ahead. I was so excited I was just shaking. I know its a small button buck, but its an amazing first deer. I've been waiting 3 years for this, and I'm still just pumped!
