Hi Everyone. I am new to the forum, and well, new to Bow Hunting. Recently I have become very interested in learning to use and hunt with a bow. I have no skill and starting from scratch. Looking for some advice on proper technique. i'm hoping to have adequate enough skill to go bow hunting this coming fall. I would appreciate any advise. or even just pointing me to the right beginner threads already made here. I look forward to speaking and learning from everyone on here. Thanks JamesD
Hey welcome to the site and sport. You will get a ton of good info from the guys on here. The only adivce I have for you is to practice practice practice practice. Good luck on your adventure.
Welcome to the site James. If you stick around here you will soon find out that we all have a big passion for bowhunting. A lot can be learned form reading what some of these guys have to say. Also, feel free to ask any qestions at all. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that would be happy to help you in any way.
Welcome James! There's a ton of info you can find one here, and advise galore. If you haven't found it already, here's a ton of Bowhunting info from this very site. Good to have you!
Welcome aboard, this is a great place to learn and there a lot of knowledgeable guys that frequent the site. Don't be afraid to ask any question that pops into mind!
Welcome to the site and to the sport James. I have good news and bad news for you. The good news, you will learn a ton on a site such as this. The bad news, you will become as addicted as the rest of us....maybe that is good as well. Do you currently have a bow? If not, visit some archery shops in your area. I suggest not going to the big box stores, but a local pro shop. They will take the time to explain to you the differences in all the bow they carry and also measure you for a proper draw length and help with your form to get you started. I suggested visit several pro shops if possible, this way you can shoot/see several different lines of bows and also find a shop with people you like and feel comfortable with. Hell, I have my pro shop on speed dial and I think I talk to them more than I talk to my wife, so you want a shop you are comfortable with. After than, you need to start shooting and do it as much as possible. I would also suggest joining a league at one of the pro shops or looking around to see if there are any bowhunting/shooting clubs in your local area. This is another huge resource for a new guy to learn a bunch of information quickly from. Besides all that, read as much as you can on sites such as this and do not be affraid to ask questions and ask a bunch. As a whole, hunters enjoy talking about the sport they love and are very willing to help new guys out. Good luck!
Welcome to the site! As many others said, there's a lot of friendly knowledgeable people here that are willing to help and answer any questions you have.
You and me both, JamesD. Here's the thread I started: http://forums.bowhunting.com/yaf_postst3350_Newcomer-seeking-bowhunting-advice.aspx Beware big box stores!
Thanks for the big welcome. it's nice seeing such a large group of nice people on the internet. lol. I do have a bow. it's a Golden Eagle. it was a gift, so I don't even know the model, the draw length or ##. i think i was told it was an 80#. I'm about a 190# guy, and in good shape, and it is pretty hard to get started on the pull back. anyway, thanks again for the warm welcome. i look forward to learning from everyone. and hopefully at some point being able to pass that knowledge on to others.
Hey James, I would think that it might be a tic heavy on draw weight to begin with. If it is a possibility, you might look into a lighter draw weight bow to begin with. It will make the shooting experience much more fun in the beginning.
