Which model do you prefer? Do you like the 2" sight housing or the 1-5/8" sight housing. And do you prefer the rheostat ?
I currently have the 1 5/8" housing but am thinking about switching to the 2". With a 1/4" peep the 1 5/8" is a little small and I think the 2" would be easier to center. The only situation I can envision the rheostat coming in handy is in a ground blind where there's a limited amount of light. With 5 feet of fiber you can see the pin in almost total darkness even without a light so stand hunting it isn't needed at all IMO. So in short unless you're doing a lot of blind hunting I don't think you'll need it.
I have the rheostat and never use it. And I have to disagree with Justin I like the lever better but really its all a comfort thing for the shooter.
Where the rheostat works is in bright situations, the large amount of fiber picks up too much light and your pin takes in a halo effect ...makes it look much larger then it is and can obscure your target.....turning it down covers the fibers and reduces it to a useable size.
Okay I think we were talking about two separate things. The mechanical rheostat is very useful to dim down the pin brightness when needed. I was talking about the optional rheostat LED light.
Got you....the light for the HHA is about a waste...agree it would be almost too dark to shoot if you need that to see your pin. The HHA are very very bright...agreed
I am a fan of the single pin sights and I'm going to be purchasing an HHA single pin in the near future but a lot of what everyone says is that the problem with a single pin is the inability to adjust it when the animal moves while you're at full draw. That seems to be a major reason why people don't use them. What do you think about that? Also say a deer is sprinting towards you and is rutting and you won't be able to tell exactly where it will end up. How difficult is it to range the animal and then adjust the sight and then draw back and make the shot?
I keep mine at 25 yds and I practice with it set there. I know how to compensate different distances for those situations where for some reason I wouldn't be able to adjust my sight. But it hasn't happened to this point. I've always had time to range the deer move my sight and shoot. I will shoot HHA products for a very long time. Great product, great company, and fantastic customer service! The sight is extremely durable and the pin is super bright. What more can you ask for? Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I completely agree. I do not see it as a problem especially where I hunt(PA where the majority of my shots are under 30-35 yards at most due to the timber). And yes I plan to also set my sight at 25 and practice all off season and figure out how to compensate for different shots using my 25 yard pin in the off chance that I won't have time to change it.
I also see that you use muzzy broadheads and a single pin sight. I currently use mechanical heads and I don't have to sight back in once I start using broadheads closer to the season. Sometimes fixed heads tend to shoot differently than field points so how do you account for that with a single pin sight with tape already set?
Exactly! I love my single pin HHA. You can't make it any simpler if you're only shooting out to 30yrds. The key word is compensate.
I just got the DS-XL5510 the dial with the 2” and the .10 pin I would suggest the two add-ons the infinite adjuster and the second and third axis adjustment. As this is new I have not hunted with it yet It has been great to setup and the view is what I was looking for. I also went with a 1/4” meta peep
Love my HHA lite ultra. My accuracy has for sure increased since I switched over. I got the 1 5/8" housing and dropped down to a 1/8'' peep (will prob go back to 1/4'' for hunting season). I went with the Ultra just because the dial seemed easier to turn and it's in 1 yard increments vs. 5 yard increments on the slider. You wont be dissapointed!
I like the ultra more than the slider as well. More smooth and you get more yardage out of it Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
