So I wanted to capture my hunts but I didn't want to break the bank before diving in.
After some reading, I decided to pick up a used GF S20 on eBay for just north of $200.

What say you? Good first move or should I have ponied up for a g20 or 30? Figured with a tree arm and tripod, I can be all in this way for less than 500.

    thx.

The HF S20 is a great camera. I started out with a HF S10, upgraded to a HF S20 for the sole purpose of having an LANC port to be able to plug a remote into. Camera took great quality video and was pretty user friendly. I did however later upgrade to a G20 and later a G30 and am glad I did. Both the G20 and G30 take much better low light video in my opinion. Both also have a more useable manual focus ring, which I feel is pretty critical. It all depends on what you want. I started small and upgraded as my passion grew. I don't regret starting with the Hf S10 or Hf S20, but am sure glad I finally got a G30. All depends on what you are comfortable spending and what you are looking for in overall quality.
I am thinking about selling my G20 so if you do decide to go that route let me know.
    Good luck and enjoy!
