Thought I would pass along that the Dept of game and Inland fisheries is having a 2010 Bowhunter Survey.(They've been doing it for years, first year I've heard about it though.) I e-mailed my interest in participating and received my forms today... It is a great way to keep a journal of your encounters, they just ask you mail in back by Jan. 1st. It's a chart, documenting what animal, temp, wind, mast crop, county, hours hunted, date, etc. Pretty useful for yourself as much as it is for them. Here's the official wording: Bowhunters Needed for Survey The Department has an ongoing statewide bowhunter survey to obtain information on bear, deer, turkey, small game, and furbearer populations. The deer data collected provides important information relative to deer population trends, adult sex ratios, and recruitment. The Department would like to increase the number and distribution of cooperators across the Commonwealth. If you would like to participate in this survey, please contact Mike Fies with your mailing address at [email protected]. Participants will receive an annual survey form to complete during the early archery deer season and a copy of the results after they are compiled. The Department appreciates your interest and cooperation.
My husband and I are avid bowhunters, and we have been participating in this survey for the past four years. It is very easy, and I encourage fellow bowhunters to please take the time to participate. It does not take much time, and it is actually fun. It is very helpful to VDGIF, and I am sure it helps them to be able to determine seasons any much other useful information. Please give it a try! Happy hunting!
