Like the title said, I am preparing for my first season ever bowhunting (first season hunting ever also). I'm 16 and athlete and a huge angler, all I ever do is sports and fish (: so this summer while out fishing with my buddies one suggested getting into bowhunting. (Side note: He also got me into bowfishing this summer so been doing that also). So put Bear Element 2007 60lb draw weight at 26-28 inches on lay away and going to pick it up tomorrow. Also about to order some Under Armour gear (:

So.... Anyone got anything beginner tips I should remember/use while out in the field for my first season? :D I plan on being in a treestand for deer, and also still hunting (stalk) for turkey. Also how do you guys feel about the Bear Element? Is it a good bow to start with?

    -Thanks for reading :D

Welcome, I'm going to be a junior in high school so we are of similar age. You won't regret taking up bowhunting, trust me. Also, still hunting turkeys with a bow can be extremely difficult- I would reccomend using a blind to have a better chance at success. But if you really want a challenge, still hunting them isn't totally impossible. Good luck to you this season.

Thanks everyone for the welcome! and yeah "Just Passin thru" I'm also going to be a Junior. Yeah I've been told it's difficult and I'm also going to probably go in the blind for turkeys. But I'm, no doubt, gonna try stalk and walk for them, I know a place where I can get to some non-pressured birds.

Sweet! :tu: And prepare to drop all other sports/hobbies once you harvest your first animal haha. I actually quit playing hockey because I wanted more time to hunt. And honestly I don't regret that decision one bit. Bowhunting is a sport like you will never believe.

Hey, Nothing more exciting then bow hunting, your Bear Element is a good starter just practice alot and have confidence in your ability! It was taught to me early on to take a couple Doe's first and work on your shot placement and ethics! Good Luck and share the experience.
    Thanks, Steve Orr

Again, thanks everyone for the welcome and tips. One question though... I'm left handed but right eye dominant. I tried shooting my friends right handed hoyt rampage xt and had alright groupings... Also tried my left handed Bear Element and also had decent groupings. Soooo kinda confused on which side of the bow will help me out in the long run, I feel really comfortable on either side. I just don't know what is more important, my stronger arm or my stronger eye? haha :D

The general rule is to go with your dominant eye. In the long run it'll be more beneficial for you.

Ok, thanks. I'm going with the right handed Bear Element instead of the LH one. :) We'll see how it turns out!
