I am new here and to bow hunting/deer hunting all at the same time.

I am an active duty USMC Major (LtCol select - yee ha), Florida resident and avid Florida Gator (alumni).

I just moved up to Northern VA/Quantico (again) this year and have got the deer bug bad - have hunted all my life, never deer. I have hunted ducks, quail, pheasant etc...never drew a bead on a deer. Not sure where this came from, but its driving my wife and kids nuts.

I won a Hoyt 38 Pro on eBay, got it set up for my ape arms (6'6" 250) needed a 34" draw. Its sitting at 64 lbs draw and yesterday when I shot it in the yard I am getting 5-6" groups with a flyer or two per dozen arrows at 30 yards. That was with field points.

Picked up some broad heads today at Wally World - Muzzy 4 blade 100 grain and some NAP Shockwave mechanical. Also scored some clothing and accessories - and some scent free detergent and scent spray. I also have some Muzzy 3 blades coming in the mail.

I got an Amacker Climb and Carry - not sure that was the best decision now that I have it, will make it work and I only paid $115 for it, so not too deep into it. May get a blind since my 7 year old son wants to come with me.

Got my license and base pass to hunt on Quantico and have been bugging and bothering every hunter I can find. A few more days getting comfortable with the bow and I am going out - figuring one day after work this week.

My greatest concern now is if I actually do manage to shoot something how to clean and process it. I have a Outdoor edge lite coming to the house, as well as a few DVD's with good reviews to get more info then I have already gleaned from the net. I have been watching every YouTube video I can for field dressing, bow tuning - you name it.

Anyway, long ramble and intro - didn't see a new member section. I am familiar with forums - being an avid Harley and Kawa KLR rider and way out there gun nut (I build AR's and AK's as one of my many other hobbies).

Well for starters welcome to the site! You will quickly learn that we have ton's of great people that are always more then willing to help out! As for field dressing a deer that is one area that I am unable to help with yet.

Congrats on the LtCol select! Loved my time in the Marine Corps and always love meeting fellow Marines! Good luck this season. Be sure to keep us posted on how it is going. And be sure to get your son out into the woods with you!

yep they are - shooting 100 grain in both

raining and nasty today no practice in, hoping to try my new 4 blade muzzy's and the mechanical ones I got today

got wife and daughter birthdays Mon and Tues... have missed 4 of the last 5 due to deployments so Wednesday may be the first day I get to actually try and see if I can find a deer... I have low expectations picturing myself crashing through the woods like an idiot.

I have been reading and searching and bugging everyone I can find - all of them say they want to take me out, but I don't want to hinder their hunting so figure I will bug them later in the year. We can get 6 deer off our lic here plus 2 a day for management on Quantico - and there are a TON of deer here. I am not in a huge rush.

Welcome aboard. Make sure to check out some of the older threads. Some great info there. Most to the people on here are extremely knowledgeable. I've learned a lot here in the past few months and I've been bow hunting for 15 years.
