Like the title says, I'm brand new to bow hunting and archery in general. I just picked up a Mathews Switchback XT off Craigslist for $250. Restrung it with a Winners Choice string and a G5 Meta 1/4" peep. I bought a G5 Optix Rock for the sight, CE Maxima Hunter arrows, G5 T3 broadheads, and a Scott Shark release. I'm hoping to hunt it this weekend. Expect stupid noob questions from me in the future.

Sounds like your equipment is set up. So how long have you been shooting a bow?

If i were you id practice this season and wait to hunt. Shooting for 5 days then trying to shoot at a live target will either leave you frustrated because of a miss or worse a wounded deer. Im sure other guys will tell you the same. Just keep on practicing. Good luck and welcome.

Welcome to the site. I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you what I did when I first got into bowhunting. I had my bow for about 6 months before the season started and shot at least every other day until the season came in. I was able to get a deer my first season, missed a few also, but I had been shooting for several months. You are the only one that will know your comfort level with getting out there but the more practice you get in the better your experience will be, IMO. If you decide you are ready, be safe and good luck with your hunt.

Thanks for the advice. I've been gun hunting for almost 20 years, an I guess I assumed it couldn't be that much more difficult, besides the fact that you had to get the deer in much closer.

Welcome to the site and this great sport. Have to say that I agree with the others about waiting and getting in more practice. I spent my first entire season just practicing and never hunted once. I had and still have this fear of wounding a deer and don't know that I can handle that well. I know that it can still happen but I am confident in my shots. Regardless of what you decide Welcome and best of luck to you! Your gonna love this an not want to gun hunt anymore!

Welcome to the site again and agree with the practice being very important. Also when u do get out there remember to let the right shot come to you. Don't try and rush a shot to make it happen. Just let it happen because it will. :)
