I also like making the deer the focal point of the photo. I 5hink the hunter being out of focus gives that effect.

The deer's nose is the focal point of the picture, IMO

Tony, would you hit the bricks already. We know you have nothing of any substance to share.

In this photo I was trying to get the flowers. This year was a bumper crops of yellow tops and I remember thinking that if I killed a bird on this farm I wanted to try to get a good photo with the flowers. Never seen this angle before on a hunting photo. I would like to try it on a deer.

Yeah my ego is the first and only thing I ever think about, bummer, I may have to go curl up in a ball of depression and cry now, thanks.

Look, I was trying to actually offer some genuine useful criticism in my initial post with a little bit of brutal honesty and a little bit of positive feedback concerning the deer and the night setting. You're the one that used the pic you did as a basis of discussion. I could have gone full on brutal honesty and said frankly, as a hero shot photo, that pic just sucks. The hunter is totally out of focus, the pose and compositions are terrible as they completely throw the scale of comparison between hunter and deer completely out of any scale based in reality, the stars and background that you made a point of trying to capture are even more out of focus than the hunter. As a work of photography it's a nearly total fail, the only thing that looks remotely good is the deer itself. I don't know what gear you're using or what settings you used so I can't offer any advice there as far as what may work better, those are fairly fundamental things in photography though some have changed since the prominence of digital technologies has came about. I offered what was obvious as far as the composition and pose which is what most everyone else did as well. I don't think you'll find many serious hunters that still have an appreciation of stiff arm shots and camera trickery to make a deer look huge but even if you do, they'll probably prefer to see clear pics rather than pics that are poor quality. Your avatar pic looks fine as far as I can tell. Maybe you should have used that to open with if you're going to be so sensitive to opinions and critiques.

If that initial pic is representative of the body of your work then you need more than just pointers, you need some serious coaching by a photography instructor. If you can't take a serious critique of your work without getting all butthurt then maybe consider staying away from asking public opinion from hunters that are used to seeing hundreds of hero shots and professional quality photography. I truly wish you well with your photography and hunting in the future.

I hate to say what it looks like you are doing to that poor bird in that picture... maybe that why you have never seen that angle done before. Just being honest..

I do love the contrast of the flowers with you and the bird. Very nice turkey too.

You can't offer any advice because you're an idiot. Being an idiot is like being dead, you don't relaize you're dead or dumb as a bag of hammers...but everyone else knows it.

You claim to speak for everyone else, but you do not....

And I HATE that gay pic of you and the turkey...that is horrible.. You could have gotten the flowers in the pic without a melodramatic gaze to the heavens...

Please consider another career....along with another forum...

You don't have the class or good sense to take advice when someone offers it to you pardner. You think you know it all and you're not willing to learn, that's a bad combination. I feel sorry for any clientele that you con into hiring you to do any photography because if they aren't happy I can't see them them getting any satisfaction from you because you're just going to throw a fit and tell them they're dumb as a bag full of hammers, lol. Even if they don't hire you, I feel sorry for them for wasting time having you do shoots of something that is such a special event.

If you're serious about photography then do your due diligence and do some more research and study and please try to get over your ego because you truly do need help and you need to learn to take criticism as well as praise because you deserve a lot of both during your learning experiences.

I have nothing to contribute, photographically speaking but I thought the same exact same thing when I looked at the turkey molesting photo.

Photo 1. I like the angle of the photo, with the stars. Do not like the arm extension, seems to make the deer distorted.

Photo 2. Like the flowers, Do not like the angle.

I'm not a professional photographer, partner. This is a hunting buddy. I'm just a good ol' poor boy from Southern Virginia. I like putting a little effort into photos hence the solicitation of advice on technical profocency. I don't need some jacklegged two bit art critic that talks about "my body of work" ...did you really type that???? " Body of work"??? Haha. You think you're redneck son....you better check my resume. Now move on and quote with the trying too hard, long winded posts. I see pretentious d-bags like you all the time on forums. You think you're somebody?? You're a dime a dozen.

Thanks for the photocritique. My buddy and his family are tickled with the photo.

Rushed for time. Most of the phot is came out out of focus, over exposed, under exposed, out of focus. Tough trying to get a good photo in the pitch dark with a flash and a Energizer head light. Now...back to what I'm looking for...real photography type advice...it can be whatever...advance, noviced. Advice isn't just for me.

We've already established check "arm stretch". Boxed ched. Maybe one of you arm stretch harpies can give some advice on ISO/shutter/aperture settings for night shoots???

Haha. It does look a little suspect! He did get the shafts that day. Thought maybe trying this angle but with the bird spread out and the kneeling over looking at it. I think That would look cool.
