Keyboard sportsman? The guy posted looking for advice. And that's exactly what he got. He got different opinions from different people. That doesn't make those people right or wrong because he simply does not like the responses he got. If he cant accept the fact that nobody is buying that it's "just a wide camera lens", then he shouldn't be asking advice or input from the public on a public forum. Nobody was saying anything bad about the deer OR the photo. If you think that is ripping then maybe you should go over and visit AT. They will show you pretty Fast what ripping really is. If you were looking for hundreds of "wow's" and "beautiful's" to come pouring in, then perhaps you shouldn't ask for input, and stick to Facebook.

Sounds like we have several on here all the sudden from AT. This group has always been positive and friendly and I've made several good friends on here. I would hate to see it polluted by negativity.

The way I see it he didnt like some of the opinions some of us had and HE had some snide remarks.... so WHO are you talking about? I simply put "you need longer arms " as a funny way of pointing out my opinion (what he ASKED for) of the composition of the photo he posted instead of coming out and saying that I thought (my opinion!), his photo looks Ridiculous. I still said nice deer... Then I and others pointed out that the deer does in fact look stiff armed when he claims it isnt. I seen no one put him down or call him names. In fact I think everyone here complemented the deer? I guess Im a cell phone (picture) warrior and a keyboard sportsmen...

I'm impressed enough to follow him....

    Here's my photography advice...

Don't point the deer's nose at the camera and have the hunter straight arm the head from 3 feet back....

There's a photography thread if you're looking for "more experience than a cell phone camera". :tu:

    A few things for me..

Hero photo doesn't always have to incorporate the guy's face. Take a few of the typical but mix it up with different angles of the deer, etc.

Sky behind the deer looks beautiful but blurry. Haven't dove into photography yet but sure there's a way to clear that up.

The bokeh on the guy's face really makes him unrecognizable so presenting this image by itself as the lone hero shot is going to get some criticism because the memory created from hero shots is YOU and your DEER. I think you would have had a better response if you posted a group of the photos you took from this session rather than this lone photo.

I think the first two responses you got were genuine opinions and those people even commented about how it's a nice buck and said some other nice things. Some people like arm extension some don't. I think it's fine because it gives a neat perspective, but you can't get your panties all in a bunch when someone calls you out on it.

Seriously, dude, you can't claim there's no arm extension here:

It's just his body posture. Look at his foot. He's squating, almost baseball catcher style. All I'm saying is that he is sitting naturally and comfortable like I asked him. He is not purposely stretching his arm to make the deer look bigger or anything like that. If it was just the deer could probably have used longer shutter to get the stars better. People tend to make blurry photos with long shutter because they move a little. Plus using the flash and long shutter is kind of difficult for a beginner like me. I don't have hours to take these photos....this guy is a joe blow like me....not some pro hunter worries about production.

Face effect is because of the open aperture. Tried to gather enough light to get the stars. More aperture means less field of focus. On my TV the stars look pretty good, on my smart phone you can't really see them that we'll unless you're dim light.

I will elaborate why I dont like it.. I do think its a neat perspective and like some of the shots (not this one so much), but I also like to see people post other pictures with it that are more realistic of the true size of the deer. I hate that so many people are always stiff arming in every picture just to make the deer appear to be larger than it is. I have more respect for someone that post pictures with them holding the deer and giving real life size perspective instead of trying to "fool" people into thinking their deer is bigger than it is. Just my opinion.
