It's been a busy spring for me. Besides Softball practice, pitching lessons, basketball practice, basketball camps, Front yard renovations, food plot prepping, equipment repair and general maintenance, I have been working on building a softball field for my daughters team to practice on. Being on a travel team, sometimes it's difficult to find places to practice that don't charge. So, my wife proposed that I just build a field so we can practice at our place. Eventually I broke down and agreed to tackle that challenge. I didn't do a great job of documenting the process with photos, but here's what I have. I still have some work to do, but here's where it's at now. My next step is to set the poles for the back stop, so if anyone wants to head over to my place and help out that would be great I started out by mowing the area, then I located and marked home plate and roughly the base path and pitching mound. I used a tape measure hooked to a post at the pitching mount area to mark the outfield arc. Used spray paint as I walked around the ark. Then I tilled the entire infield area. I box bladed the tilled materials to level it out and pull some of the dirt towards the backstop area. It needed some fill. This is where I started taking pictures. Once I got it all leveled out(best I could), I had a load of lime screenings delivered to help build a nice solid base for the soil. Used my bucket to move the material and then spread it all out and leveled with the box blade. Once that was done, I marked out the base lines and set the bases and pitching mound. I mowed off some outfield and we practiced there on Tuesday and will be practicing again tonight. I hope to have the backstop installed in a couple weeks so we can get to live hitting and pitching. Right now we are just working on fielding.
