Well, she will be anyway. This is Elly May (okay, I always thought Donna Douglas was beautiful), an AKC registered beagle from outstanding hunting stock. Her mom is only 11" and the dad is only 13" so she'll be very "portable". :D

I picked her up last night. With proper training, she should be a solid answer to my being colorblind. :tu:

Very cool life for a pet. Congrats.

I'd love one for the same reason.

I can't remember exactly what the guy I got them from said, but he's sending me the AKC registration paperwork and I could follow up with you when I get it. He told me that the sire was a grand national champion rabbit dog, but somewhere in that conversation "Canada" came into play, so I'm not sure what that means. According to him the dam is also a champion rabbit dog. He was rattling off way to much info to retain. I just know that she should be a good tracker.

All things considered, it doesn't really mean that much to me if she's AKC registered or if the parents are champions or not. I just need a friend and hunting buddy who can help me find my deer. :)

As tiny as she is/will be, if you can teach her not to bark just carry her in your pocket on every hunt! :P

Ellie Mae was a babe! I met her once in the late 70s and she was still gorgeous. You made a great choice for a tracking dog... get her out there as soon as you can on some blood trails and you will be amazed what she can smell that you can't even see. I had a Lab that was awesome at straightening out my messes and he found his first deer at only 3 months old. I am trying to find a Brittany now... my brother has a female he thinks may be preggo... we'll see.

You should read Johns chapter on beagles in his tracking book. He has some good insight.

Rob/PA has a lot of expertise on trailing dogs... you may want to look up some of his previous posts.
