Well, there's your problem. Welfare pays more than starting teacher salaries and entry level computer programming in several states. No wonder we have some many people leaching off the system. I am in no way advocating raising minimum wage, because all that does is raise the price of commodities for everyone. Instead, we need to reform the welfare system and force people off the system. There's really no excuse for someone to receive more pay and benefits for not working than someone who goes to college, gets a degree and takes a job as a teacher. We are just a very pathetic, broken nation at this point. Study: Welfare pays more than minimum wage in most states | Fox News
I think we should drug test ppl on welfare. I know that would cost money, but we would be ahead of the game in the long run.
Did you read the full study? In order to receive all those benefits, you had to fall into a very specific category. I just don't like blanket statements like the headline of that article.
I'm confused as to what specific category of people that are not working should receive higher pay than 1st year teachers?
There are a lot of people that are capable of working that get these benefits, they are just lazy. I'm all for a safety net for folks but this is far beyond that (what we have now). This is simply creating an environment where people are rewarded for being lazy and the rewards are basically limitless. If someone wants to live as a beach bum, that's their right to choose to do so but it shouldn't be up to the tax payers to subsidize and support him/her for life. Illegals should be totally exempt from any benefits period.
Welfare should be done away with PERIOD. It is not your governments responsibilty to support you. Get off your azz
Agreed. It is your personal responsibility AND that of your family and local community. Our community roots would be stronger if we all helped take care of our friends and families. Our federal government needs to stay out of that aspect.
I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying that the article is misleading. It is a very small percentage that receive that total of benefits.
And of course noone here is arguing that maybe teachers should be paid more? Odd that Fox doesn't take that stance. or maybe not since we all know "teachers" are on the taxpayer's bankroll and thus a burden to all tea baggers. Obviously raising the minimum wage will result in some increases in cost of products/services, but that's a narrow-minded POV when economic studies show that raising the wage of the lowest earners benefits the economy much more than giving bonuses to fat-cats. Poor people WANT money so they can spend it at your business. They are least likely to have a savings account and most likely to spend any increase in salary they get.
Working in EMS I have transported people making almost twice what I make feeding off the system from what they have told me. Oh and they have an iPhone.
I believe in taking care of the sick and elderly and kids But if your able bodied and able to work get off your butts, quit popping pills, close your legs and quit popping out babies and get to work. But when you start talking welfare cut there are other areas of aid that could be slashed as well. Foreign aid Immigrant aid what about Farm aid ?
