VAbowman I have two friends who are married and lesbians, 9 years ago they adopted two little girls who were black. Their biological father was unknown and their mother a heroin-addicted. If they would have remained in their situation what life would they have known? How does a kid who's been condition to be in failure climb out of failure? Then go to a school that is conditioned to move them on and use them as $ on count day. You said it yourself you nor my wife will work in these schools or neighborhoods, so how the hell do we stop the cycle? Treating people with respect is a good start, but the problems run deeper and have been around longer. The two young girls I spoke of live a very different life today than what was in front of them, it's full of dance recitals, soccer, and going to public school in the burbs. The older girl is a really good soccer player, I ref one of her games. What I do is every year I ref for free a tournament down in Ohio, it's a tourney that supports inner-city youth soccer program for funding. I donate the 150 bucks to the cause of my ref fees, not a huge deal but my daughter played in it 9 years ago and I was impressed with the gentleman who ran it, so I return each year. The tourney always has 5 or 6 of the soccer teams it supports from the city. You have 16 kids on a team and about 4 parents, look at the other sideline and every kid has a parent there, some have grandparents, aunts, and uncles. It's a stark contrast and why one group succeeds and one does not. So how do we break that cycle? How do we show kids who see no hope that there is hope, I don't know. It's not a left or right issue, states like Alabama and Mississippi have been terrible for years and GOP controlled. New York(city) has been Democrat-controlled and is terrible same with Chicago. Michigan legislator has been GOP the last 26 years and somehow Michigan as a whole and Detroit have gotten worse. We elect the same people and get the same results and state we need to elect other people, I simply don't know anymore.
Not lets not act a fool for I've never uttered those words. Have also stated many times I was a 40+ yr Democrat. I just said a few days ago that the Republicans stood with the safety off as the Dems had stumpage already. those 100 Rhinos even the stumpage count the other day. Keep not getting those facts right, your on a roll..
A lot of talk about education and where it's going wrong. The way going forward is not to dismantle history and reteach it as is currently being pushed for. I said it back in 2016 and stick to it today and until it returns. Bring back shop classes and vocational schooling options. Give young creative minds an escape from book learning and get hands on experience in actual skilled trades while in school. They are elective classes not forced upon students. Books bored me to death in school, I took every shop class I could 7th grade through graduation. It's what kept me going to school, my shop teachers are always the teachers I remember when i think back to my school years. Without them I can guarantee I would have been a highschool dropout, no doubt in my mind. My Junior and Senior years I soent the first half of the day at a vocational school, the second in Highschool classes. I graduated 6 months early from highschool because I was bored with it. I talked with my vocational instructor, Mr. Bullard, about how it would affect my vocational class with me not still being in attendance at highschool. Not sure how common it is, but he was able to get me hired into his classroom in the afternoons as a student job program. I went to class in the morning, went to lunch and the 2nd half of the day I made $3.15 an hour sorting nuts and bolts into proper bins, organizing the tool crib and cabinets. Eventually I blended myself into the class and was able to keep getting paid but continuing working on shop projects from the morning classes but I did not have to partake in the afternoon classroom activities. My job today is direct result of my highschool shop class educations. I found something that intrigued me, seeing how something worked and how to fix it when it didn't. Small engines, wood working, metal working, electrical systems. A little bit of this, alittle bit of that but it all added up to a diverse assortment of mechanical aptitude. Didn't have to wait for someone to fix my bike or repair the lawn mower. Give kids a chance to have some skilled learning while in school to capture their imagination and find them something they truly enjoy. Not capture them politically while their mind is still naive and manipulatable(word?). You'd be surprised how many low income youths could come out of highschool and get a job at a jiffy lube rather than Mc Donalds, or apprentice for HVAC, construction company. Kinda losing my train of thought as this gets longer, but bring back opportunity at a younger age rather than waiting for them to be set out on their own to find out what they may be good at or enjoy.
Germ, you make some damn good points. And honestly, I don't think there is much of a solution. I know this, my neighbor across the street, black, mid 40s, grew up in St Louis,. Said it was the pit. he was scared most his life..he joined the army and retired at 40. he told me he had no choice but to leave. the army gave him everything he needed to do it. He now lives in a 400K home and raised a family and is a wonderful man. you tell me
Why slap me silly if that didn't sound like a case for voting Republican! Germ ,you drinking? ...lol We know the definition of insanity ...doing the same thing repeatedly expecting........
Oh danm I forgot to whom I wrote : Reference____ to _____ shooting_____ ones ____ own____ foot____ off.
you want to talk about disenfranchised? Native Americans...no other race has been forgotten quite like them
And all of this talk boils down to this for me....At some point people have to change. Get better. Act better. Stop blaming. Do something. Realize this is a giant crap storm we live in every day. The constant whining becomes deafening when even the most logical person speaks...like crying wolf over and over.
NeoCon Social Progressives are no longer the majority of the Republican Party. They may be the primary donors; but they no longer control the votes. It's now Donald Trump's party. And he's got a huuuuuge tent- 95% registered Republican approval. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, NeverTrumpers. Take Trump out and put in a Romney or a Ben Sasse- and Republicans lose every state. Because we're sick of GOP swamp slime who pretend to fight the good fight when all they plan to do is lose but with poise, dignity and grace.
Anybody else see the twitter video of the guy standing outside his house fire a couple warning shots. Best not bring riots to residential areas in the suburbs. It is getting close to boiling over.
Germ you never did respond to my question about the anti pro life lawsuit that you are supporting, kinda flipped there now didn't you.
Really pisses me off how the media is playing this out and the athletes and famous people are so horribly offended about this brazen act of police brutality. If you are given commands you do not ignore and go to get something out of a vehicle he was reaching in not in the getting in position. This is a text book video of what to do if you want to get shot by the police. City problems.
