My comment was geared towards blaming the moderate muslim who does not speak out against the radical muslim, I have never heard of the catholic church condemning a abortion clinic bomber. Granted the cases of bombing clinics is rare now, but there was a time.
one of the main differences in Christianity and Islam is about a 1000 years ago Christianity went through reformation Islam has not nor will it ever, they are still using beliefs set in the dark ages..
Thinking about the original topic and the outrage. I don't know about the rest of most posters here but I grew up out in the country was in my teens in the late 70's early 80's. Back then teachers could do worse than a punch to the chest to physically correct a student. I think the unwritten rule was they could not draw blood.
and a few decades before that blacks were treated as not equal to whites... we evolve for the better (generally) as a society
My husband, who is older than I am and also older than you are, grew up in the country, the southern Missouri Ozarks to be precise. He says you are very mistaken. Those weren't the words he used. I can't repeat what he actually said. The mods wouldn't like it. May The Sheep Be With You
I will never forget 8th grade, a kid in my class named Brock was a classic screw up always in trouble. He was doing something stupid during a filmstrip presentation. Mr Rice flips on the lights and walks up behind Brock and grabbed him by the hair on top of head and proceded to shake his head around. Mr Rice stopped and asked Brock if he was ready to pay attention. Brock said Mr Rice you missed 3rd gear. The class erupted and Brock was cuffed up along side the head and sent to the principals office. Gym teachers were notorious for making an example of screw ups.
Well if we did a survey of posters here over 45 and asked if they witnessed physical corrections of students by teachers he would be shocked at the result.
lol... I remember my 5th grade year we were stationed in FL it was 1973 I believe... teachers had the option of paddling you in the classroom to save time or sending you to the principal most choose the classroom... the one time they sent me to the principal I walked out the door and high tailed it home.... never did get paddled..lol
Physical correction is one thing. My algebra teacher once grabbed me by the collar and arm and threw me out into the hall with instructions to go to the principal's office and stay there until I was ready to do the class work.* (I stayed on my feet.) Paddling was common. I never got paddled though. But punching a student would have been over the line. Parents expected kids to be disciplined, but going too far could get a teacher a visit from a kid's daddy. Girls didn't get paddled either, but girls were always well behaved, at least in school. *I planned on quitting school as soon as I turned 16. So I did the 9th grade twice with all failing grades, a perfect record. That particular teacher got annoyed at me turning in tests and homework blank. I sat in the principal's office until they realized I didn't care and sent me back. That teacher and I ignored each other after that. And as my wife pointed out, a blow to the chest like that can be fatal. So there was none of the brutality you're suggesting. The teachers at that time were very professional. The men teachers wore suits and ties and the women wore skirts and blouses with a jacket or sweater. Most of them even wore heels. Sometimes I wonder if teachers might get more respect if they looked more professional. That's my two cents worth anyway.
