I have 2 of these ropes for pulling up my Bow and my Backpack after hanging my stand. I'm having a issue with them getting knotted up when I get them out of my backpack, which wastes 5mins or so that I could be up in the stand.

    1) any suggestions on to how to keep knots out after every use? (I was think of spraying WD40 on them bit the scent is making me think otherwise)

    2) what do you all use? Just regular rope or string?

    Thanks

Why not just pack them differently so they aren't all tangled up?
...or if its a inherent problem with that type of cord/rope...get diffident ones. I generally use black para cord and just leave them at each stand. You can find it on ebay cheap, it doesn't rot, you cut it into lengths ( I cut 100 in four 25 foot lengths) burn the ends and your good to go.

Same thing happens to me when I use 550 cord. All you need to do is wrap in on something. I have used a fishing line spool to wrapping it around my gps.

Personally I prefer a larger diameter rope. Plus it doesn't tangle

I've always hated getting my rope out and messing with it at the stand. Anymore I just strap my bow to my back pack and carry it all up.

I use the "figure 8" method like in the video Fitz posted. It works great, each and every time. I mostly use it when I use my climber, as I have pull ropes tied off to all of our ladder stands.

I hook one end to my stand, or safety vest, the other to my bow, and as I climb, the rope pulls out, knot-free. Great idea, and it works!

I keep mine wrapped around the base of my stand, only takes 15-20 seconds to wrap/unwrap, I've never forgot to bring it with me to the woods and its never been knotted up.

I've got a nice bow rope... or so I thought... It has terrible "line twist" I'm gonna try Fitz style before I get something different.

It has become a dread for me lately lol... I can have my climbing sticks and all up faster then I've spent the last several times out getting my pull ropes out and ready....(them being new doesn't help either) Once untangled they aren't a problem... I used the method Fitz posted and then untied them and they seemed alot better already with no tangles or knots.... Love the board for info with problems like this... Thx again everyone for your responses

I use my climbing rope- it stays attached to the tree, I never forget it, and it's heavy enough it doesn't sway in the wind or get tangled in my pack. Just take the end, flip a quick knot around the limb in front of the cam, and once I'm in the stand I pull it up. Once I'm untied I drop it down and I'm good to go.

The figure 8 works wonders, do this with all of my ropes now.

I just climb up with my bow when hunting hang ons and ladder stands. I hang it on the hook as soon as i can reach it then just get in the stand. The sticks and ladders are easily climbed.

When using my climber i have two large hooks bolted on the front. I use it during gun season to hold my shotgun and it works just perfectly that the holes in the riser will accept the hooks.
