I recently got my bow restrung, it took them two weeks to do it and when I finally got my bow back today the guy put a different peep sight in. Before it was tied in with the three strings but now it's the one that just sits in the string that you have to mess with everytime you draw. I drew back 4 different times and couldn't even see my sight. Am I doing something wrong? The last thing I want to worry about before I shoot a deer is I hope my peep lines up
You need to take your bow to a shop and have them set your peep sight and tie it in. Do not take it to the place that took 2 weeks to restring your bow.
You also need to shoot that bow to set the strings because the peep will move as you break in the strings.
once the string stretches the peep site will stop twisting but you need to shoot your bow about 100 or 150 times to get that string stretched good... This is why I always go with Jay James' "HARDCORE STRINGS" they are custom built and when you get them on your bow there is NO stretch left in the string for this problem to happen and he ships strings within a day or 2 to anyone in the world and any pro shop!!! But as far as your sting once its stretched then take it back to the shop have them twist the string to set it the right way and it'll never move again!
Curious; if I may ask, what string brand is it and was it advertised as pre-stretched? Reason I'm asking is I will soon be putting a new string on and I don't want to go through the same issues. I haven't heard of "Hardcore Strings" and will be looking those up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Back in the day when I shot a compound the peep sight for me was Murphy's Law waiting to happen ( it did). So I did a permanent fix, I got rid of it and used just a kisser button.
The brand is "first string" and it claims to be pre-stretched yes. When I was at the shop I pulled back and everything lined up but when I got home to shoot it the peep almost never lined up, my buddy had the same problem with his using a G5 peep.
I looked it up and the peep style I had was a triple slots peep, and the one now is a double slots peep. The triple anytime I pulled back I could see perfect never even had to touch it and the one is the exact opposite.
Have you tried rotating your d loop so the peep will line up. I just put on new 60X and I had to rotate the Dloop just a small amount so the peep would line up right. First String is top quality stuff so I would make a trip back to the bow shop and have them take a look see.
Jay James is out of Louisiana.. He has had MULITPLE world titles won by his strings and the US Olympic shooters mostly shoot his strings as well... He can make any color combo you want as well... If you just google search Hardcore bow strings on google with Jay James name it will come up!
Jrob140 bud it has NOTHING to do with the style of peep site... It really has EVERYTHING to do with the string... they can all say they are prestrectched but in all honesty they only stretch them to 300 lbs mostly while Jay James stretches his strings with ENTIRE way more force and mostly for over 24 hours per string he makes. Once your string stretches seriously in about 100 shots or maybe 150 then they set your peep you shouldn't have to worry about it again for a while... but next time don't by just any old string from the big string companies find someone who makes them custom and you'll be so much better off
Take it to someone who knows WTF they are doing & it is a 5 minute fix. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Its sad that so many pro shops just get any younger kid looking for a part time job in there to sell and set up bows... archery is an ART and very technical at times... Its hard to find a shop with someone who knows as you say WTF they doing!
Your string probably needs a twist or untwist to get the peep straight. It happens sometimes. It doesn't matter what anybody says about a brand they are shooting for (not knocking Hardcore Strings), it still happens occasionally. It's not the style of peep either. Strings can settle once installed, they are not made of steel. Even pre-stretched they can settle a little. That is why most string makers recommend shooting the bow 50 times or so before installing the peep. I use Bow String Depot and like most string makers today, they suggest you do this. I usually get in too big of a hurry and install the peep so I can start setting everything else up, and I have yet to have a problem. But I know the potential is there for it to happen. If it did I would fix it. It's one benefit of having your own tools and learning to work on your own bows, saves a lot of hassle about worrying if the shop is open or if they will screw something up.
Give the peep a little twist or two before each shot. After a while it will settle to the right position I would think. Works for my peeps.
