A friend called me and asked what would be a good bow for their 18 year old that would be around $500 ... I don't keep up on that stuff unless I am gonna make a purchase so any help would be appreciated! So I need a fully equipped bow for that price .... thoughts?

I've seen the Diamond Rock on sale in a few places. Seems you can get it for around $300, new. Leaves some room to get decent accessories. They have a ready-to-hunt package, but I would rather buy the bare bow and outfit as I want. Nice little bow, too.

The Bear strike is a great bow for @ that price. My first bow was the strike and it came fully equipped. Mention that one to him.

I like the Bear bows as well. I bought a Bear Lights Out back when they first came out, and I still shoot it daily. I would not go with the ready to hunt package though, as it sucked. Nothing is stock on mine anymore, besides the sling lol.

Bowtech Assassins go for 529 with all the fixins. Pretty sweet bow too.

Does it have to be new? Look on craigslist for new used one. Typically you can
The daimond outlaw is an rts package for $499, it's basically a bowtech assasin.
I think there is a PSE Brute package and a bear mauler also for under $500.
Lots of really good options, but I'd personally look for a Mathews DXT for $500.

The Mission Venture is a nice bow...Mission is a Mathews owned company and there bows are really nice. The Venture is 499.00 but that does not include anything with it so they'd be sure to spend more on everything else.
What other people here said Bear makes cheap ready to shoot bows. Maybe look into them. If you have a GM around at least in my area they sell alot of cheap ready to shoot bows...bear, diamond, bowtech, parker ect...good place to look.

This one doesn't get much exposure but, if you accessories it right you can get into it for around the $500.00 mark.

I forgot to mention the Hoyt Rampage. You can pick one of those up for around 500 but, it doesn't include the accessories. The regular rampage is the same bow as the Rampage XT but, it doen't have the FUEL cams. The cams could be upgraded later and he could use that bow for quite a while before upgrading to another bow.

I like the Mission line bows also. What I thought was neat about the Mission line is part of the proceeds from hat line go to missionaries over seas.

I'm a huge Mission fan. I could not be happier with the quality of the Mission bows. Truly a well build bow with super smooth shooting.
