Everywhere I look I read something that contradicts what someone else says about which is the right arrow I should use. I am shooting at a 28" draw at 62 pounds. I use 100 grain expandales. I want to shoot a medium-heavy weight arrow. Right now I have 29" cut Easton ST Excel which are 8.6gpi. I have read that I should be shooting between a 5-8gpi for a medium/heavy arrow. If this is true the formula would be 5gpi-8gpi x my draw weight (62) = 310 - 496 Is this corrrect? What would be the best way to go about having the correct arrow? How do you base your arrow weight?? Thanks, houseoftoes
I look at arrow weight with a GPP (Grains Per Pound of draw weight) perspective. I recommend at least 6 GPP which would put your arrow at 372 grains total weight. That is a medium to heavy arrow IMO. Deduct 100 grains for the tip, approx 15 grains for the insert, about 25 grains for the fletches and nock and you are looking for something in the 8 grains per inch range.
So If I do the grains/pound that will put me at 372. With the arrows I am using it states on the arrow they are 8.6gpi and I have them cut to 29. That only puts me at 249 grains with just the arrow.....got it. I was thinking that the blank arrow was supposed to be 372 and then when I ad everything else it would be over 400. So all together I am shooting 389.4 Thank you for your help.
