Yea you need a bow press to relieve the tension on the string so you can get the peep between the two strands of the string.

If you have never done it before it may be best for you to have a pro shop do it for you

Best to have the shop do it for you. Some bows will allow you to relax the tension in the string enough to install the peep without a press (my Sentinel is one of them), but it's much quicker with a press. Take it to a shop. It will be a couple minutes max.

My question is why are you sighting it in for him anyways? Even if you go have a peep installed and you get it all sighted in chances are that peep will have to be moved to fit his face which will just defeat all your efforts. Why not take him to the shop get it setup for him and teach him how to sight it in?
