It'll still help. Short of taking a bottle of cough syrup to the stand with you, it's about the best you can do while you're out there.

Maybe try a visit to the Dr. and a chest x-ray??? Mucinex is good stuff, you can also do some deep breathing exercises regularly today to try to open your chest up a bit, might help by tomorrow, if you have pneumonia, then you may benefit from this. If it's a bronchitis type thing a multitude of the ideas above should help. I've had it for a few days as well, cough drops, HONEY and HOT TEA w/ lemon, I even finally took a vicodin today as I'm sore from all the damned coughing. That last one seemed to help for about 4 hours, but it also made me a little sleepy.....:busted: Mine is a bronchitis, not a whole hell of a lot I can do but ride it out, that being said, I'll likely be out there tomorow morning hoping a big boy makes a mistake and cruises by me. Might be a noisy drag out with me coughing and hacking, but "a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." Try the HOT TEA and HONEY w' Lemon tonight before bed, repeat in the morning before leaving the house, take some cough drops with you and nail a big one!!! :tu: (that's what I'm hoping to do..... )

I really think you should try this. I'll bet he's right.

Really, you gotta do what you gotta do to realize your goal. It's that simple.

    Good luck.

That is one thing I always fear this time of year, I can deal with anything else but the chest cold while in stand. I have yet to find a quick remedy, but as you eluded to it's the worst in the morning.

When I knew it was going to be a problem I'd go to bed as early as possible and then get up a few hours before I normally would just to give myself that extra time to get it cleared out. Nothing worse than the slightest muffled cough sending you into an uncontrollable fit of coughing. It makes for a longer day, but it's the only way I've really found to combat it quickly.

Now if I feel a cold coming on, I try to head it off with Zicam.

My dad always says eat a teaspoon of Vicks. Yeah that's right - the stuff you are supposed to rub on your chest. He swears it works. I have never got sick enough to actually try it but let me know if you do!

Everytime I go to the Dr. he tells me to drink plenty of fluids and rest. Then sends me a bill for 100 or more bucks. Needless to say I don't spend to much time in the office there.

I like the shots of JD myself for a cough.

Seriously though. One thing that always seems to work for me is to get a bottle of Listerine. Take a small sip of it and SWALLOW it. It will burn like hell but it really seems to help get rid of the cough.

Just hunt the evening when the cough doesn't bother you as much.

This is pretty close to what I use, minus the ice cube... luckily I haven't needed one in a couple of years. Now, where's that wood to knock on?

Rub your chest.... oh heck... rub your whole body with vicks right before you go hunting !! Trust me... you won't have to worry about the coughing scaring away the big bucks !!! :tu:

Anyways in your case... I would be more worried about someone dirty socking your stands then coughing. My new ohio buddies have been very busy.

I had the same problem during our opener-I bought a big bag of cough drops before heading out(keep the wind in your face) to the ranch. Was eating them like candy while on the stand-but it worked!

Trick it...get up an hour and a half earlier than you normally would and let the coughing start so it is done by the time you start hunting.

I bought a cough silencer a couple of years ago, works great. I keep it in my tub of bowhunting gear and pull it out a couple of days a year when I am coughing a lot. Highly recommend it.
