Hey guys. . .I was hoping to get some help updating a bow that I just recieved. . .it's an older bow, but it's in good shape and most importantly it was FREE!!! A friend from work who has a LOT of bows gave it to me when I mentioned that I was interested in getting back into bowhunting. A little background. . .the last time I shot a bow was when I was still in highschool back in '97'ish. . .I got an archery catalog. . .opened it up to start do some updating of the bow and realized that a LOT had changed and I was gonna need some help. . .the local sporting goods store has a bow Pro Shop, but I'd like to refresh myself and kinda get an idea of what I want before I go there and get sold something I don't want or need. . .plus I don't even remember how to select the correct arrow length. . .and I'm now in Washington state and will be hunting elk as well as deer so I also don't remember anything about broadhead weight selection!!! Here's what I got. . .I was told it was a custom bow (just putting that out there so that I can be told if that is true or not. . .I don't doubt the guy I got it from. . .just curious if other's know anything about their bows). . .it's a Dave Power's Signature model Power Mag compound bow by Clearwater Archery Supply. . .currently set at 72# draw weight (GEESH!!! I'm gonna have to lower that a little) with a 28.75" draw length. . .I was told that my draw was 29-29.5" by the bow salesman last time I was at Cabela's, but the 28.75" draw anchors right where I'm used to so I'm happy with that. . .it's in good shape with only a little of the camo anodizing rubbed off in high wear areas. . .other than that looks to be in REALLY good shape. . . Here's what it's got on it. . .a Hoyt 2-pc. quiver (was told this bow requires a 2-pc. quiver), a 4-pin sight of unkown brand (this is one part that needs replaced for sure. . .as well as the fact that it needs new peep tube), a Plunger rest (was told that it NEEDED a plunger rest because of one reason or another I can't remember why), an Archery Dynamics stabilizer that is as old as the bow, what look to be Sim's String Leech string silencers (that's what they look like when I was flipping through the catalog), and a cable guide/guard. . .it doesn't have a provision for a mechanical release. . .I've never shot a mechanical release before so that's not a huge deal, but it's some that I may be interested in trying. . .I've heard that once you've used them you won't go back??? Here's what I would like to do. . .update/replace the sight, rest and quiver because they are what's beat up on the bow and I would like to personlize it a little. . .I also wouldn't mind setting it up for a mechanical release and replacing the string silencer and maybe getting some of the limb type vibration dampers. . .I was told this thing HAS to have a stabilizer or else it vibrates like nobodies business. . .I don't know if that's because of the extreme (at least to me) draw weight (which is what I was told was a contributing factor) or if it's an indication of a problem with the bow??? I also would like some help selecting arrow size (22xx, etc.) and broadhead weight that would be correct for my draw length and the game that I will be hunting. . .I'm gonna stick with aluminum arrows for now because carbon is expensive to start off with and I'm kinda turned off with the fact that an arrow "may" have to be replaced everytime you hit an animal with it. . . Thanks for your time and help guys!!!
