Ok admittingly im audio visual challenged. What im trying to do is Go from my Cannon XA10 through the DVD player and recording my content onto a DVD. I can view my footage on the TV, have sound, but as soon as I pop in the DVD I loose audio but can still record onto it. Why am I loosing my audio? Hook up is from Cam AV out, to DVD vid-mono-audio, from DVD out, to TV in.
PS: Speak english please, no fancy 10 cylinder words, treat me like your explaning to a 3rd grader !!!

Aahh.... do you have a card reader in your computer? That would be a far easier way.

Not really sure exactly what you are trying to do but Ill try and help, canon records audio in a different format than what dvd's are capable of reading. You need to render your film under the right format on your computer in order to play burn them correctly on a dvd. Do you have any editing software? I'd be willing to walk you through the whole process, but it takes some time. The camera work is the easy part, its the editing that takes for ever and is alot to learn!

Different DVD players play different file formats. What brand/model DVD player do you have and what format (vob, mp3, avi, divx, etc) are you writing to the disk?

Sorry, I lapsed. Let be back up and try this route:
    1) For one of the DVD players (pick one) jot down its make and model here in the forum.
    2) Are you using a Apple or non Apple computer to copy the files? If you know what operating system you're using that would be helpful too.
    3) IF you're using a non Apple computer, put the DVD that you already copied the video onto, in your computer and browse the list of files on the DVD to see if you find the file type or extension (the extension would be the piece at the far right of the file name, should be right of a period (".") if it is part of the name; but there may be a column that shows the type of file; for example "My video.mp3", the extension would be .mp3), jot those down too...

You don't need any other software. When you saved the file from Movie maker, I assume you saved the file on your computer and 'dragged and dropped' onto the DVD. If so, unless the default was changed, when you close the session and eject the DVD, it should automatically finalize.

Here is a snip from a source:
Close or finalise a CD or DVD:
Before you can use a recordable disc (such as CD-R, DVD-R, or DVD+R) formatted with the Live File System format in other computers and devices, you need to close the current disc session to prepare the disc for use. By default, Windows closes your disc automatically when it is ejected.

    To close a disc automatically:
Press the Eject button on your computer's disc drive.

Windows automatically closes the current session. This consumes 20 megabytes (MB) of disc space and can take several minutes.

    To stop closing discs automatically:
    Open Computer.
Right-click on Writer then select Properties.
Click on the Recording tab, and then click Global Settings.
Clear the 'Automatically close the current UDF session when the disc is ejected' check box.

    To close a disc manually:
    Open Computer.
Right-click on your Writer and then click Close session.

Once the disc is ejected, the session will be closed and the disc can be used in other computers and devices.

One step closer but still yet so far,,seems like its not meant to be. Your last post helped and I was totally doing it wrong. I was using only windows DVD maker, I needed to use windows live video maker first. It took me awhile to figure out how to save the files so I could drag them in. I watched a youtube vid that I got instructions from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzvxxRonYsw&feature=related
I got through it and tried it in a dvd player, it worked BUT, no sound. I tried it in the computer dvd player, same no sound. When I play the files the sound is there!! bout ready to throw in the towel! I wonder if I need to delete the files, down load them again through my video transfer from my Cannon XA10. Any more thoughts, and thanks in advance!

It sounds like you're really close. I think I know the problem and the solution, but its somewhat speculation. I alluded to it before, but I'll try to spell it out here.

By default, most equipment and software (e.g. Your Canon XA10 or the Dvd maker) will store the files using a default file format (AVCHD for the Canon, I think). The software on the PC tends to be a bit more versatile and truly can read, translate and write in different formats (like .Mov or mp4). But Dvd players are a bit more stubborn and may only like, or only play certain file formats (e.g. .AVI or one of the other alphabet soup formats). Each of these are just like a foreign language (figuratively), but the editing software also has the translation capabilities built in.

Previously, I asked what make and model DVD player you were using, so that I could look up which formats it was capable of playing. If you know the format the player is able to play, you may be able to save the file in a different format in the editing software(using the "Save As" command usually under the File option at the top of the screen) to your disk drive before dragging and dropping the file to the DVD.

Or at least that is what I suspect...hope this helps!

One of the things im having trouble with is there is no save as option anywhere for my files when the movie maker is open. My Cannon is the AVCHD Format. I was having to copy and paste my files into my documents, couldnt find save as anywhere, dont know why I have used that many times before. Dvd players are Zenith dvd cd player with surround sound that also has VHS player,,thats all I see on it with out digging it out, its hard to get to the back of it. The other is a magnavox model no MDV3000/F7 . I really appreciate your help and have learned from it alrady, thank you much!
