I decided that wondering around aimlessly trying to figure out how many deer or if there are even any where i will be hunting was pointless. I bought a new Moultrie D55ir but need some help on where to place it. Any tips on what to look for when trying to find a "hot spot" to set this cam up? Or even a pointer on a way to cheaply attract something?

Try to find the intersection of some trails or a place where deer are entering or exiting a crop field. Put some sort of attractant such a mineral or feed in front of it. Just keep practicing and you'll learn what it takes. One thought I will leave you with though. Just because you're getting pics in a certain place in the spring and summer doesn't mean they will be there in the fall. Enjoy and have fun while you learn.

    Blessings......Pastorjim

^^^^Good tips from Jim. Any kind of funnel also works pretty good. A creek crossing, fence crossing, etc. We get a lot of pics over minerals in the summer. Food in the early fall and right now most of our cams are on mock scrapes. Good luck and show us some pics!

put the cam so it is not facing the rising or setting sun and you will get more and better pics, I put mine up off the ground about 7-9 foot to keep the ir flash from spooking deer. The slower the cam the more you will have to face it up/down a trail so the cam has time to trigger and get a deer in it.

I did set the cam up facing down the trail a little bit but i left it at about 3-4 feet. hoping thats not too too bad. but seeing as this is my first placement i will start trying some different things to see what works for me.

    thanks for all the tips

I agree with what the others have said. Try funnel's or intersecting or converging trails. Also if it's legal where you hunt throw a little corn out to keep the deer in front of the camera longer.
