Considering a new camera.. for trail cam and security. I want (ideally) a small, easy to hide unit, that has NO flash day or night and no flashing lights.Takes video and photos and sends images via text... But I have questions. Please clarify if this is correct.. IR means no flash but still takes pictures at night?? What is black light? Which units send images via text and how well do they work?? What is their range... do they send texts from many miles away as per regular texting? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
IR means infrared and they do have a visible flash. If you want a completely invisible flash you have to go with a black-flash camera. I will tell you that you give up some clarity with black-flash but if stealth is your purpose, that's the way to go. They all take color photos during the day but IR or black-flash give only black and white photos at night. As far as the cameras that send their pics, there is usually no distance limit because they use the same method as texting. As long as you have cell service where you are placing the camera then it will probably work. Covert, Moultrie and a few others make cellular cameras and are pretty reliable. Ir is infa red, which means it blinks. Waht you want is called a "black flash" camera, you can't see the flash whatsoever. The text cameras work by, you, hooking the camera up to a cellular network, then when it gets a picture, it sends the pic to you. You have to have cell service for this to work. I personally wouldn't recommend a cell camera, it has a LOT more stuff to break, I'd just buy a black flash camera and a lock box. Good luck however you chose to do it.
Fantastic information, thank you... I have looked for a review for some time and look forward to reading this one. I guess a black cam., is the way to go?? Tom
Invisible IR?? Are "IR" and "Invisible IR" The same thing? Anyone know of a "buyers guide" or intro to cameras?? Tom
Talk with the guys at Trail Cam Pro, you can chat with them or call them and they will tell you everything you need to know. I think the Bushnell cellular camera would be the best choice unless you want to spend over $1,000 then you could go with Reconyx which is bar far the best.
