Maybe also explain how the media is driving a political agenda against the weapon and show them the bias of the reporting. They had no problem reporting that the Gunman went into the church with an AR or Assault style rifle. But when they talk about the guy who engaged him, they said he came out of his house with his GUN, or Rifle. Well the Hero was also using an AR style rifle. But the media can't show that AR style guns are also used to protect lives.
You have no idea if your last paragraph is true or not. I could state if the Air Force would have follow through on reporting his misconduct he would have not been able to purchase a gun legally like he did, does that mean if would have not happen? 450 rounds into a church, Pregnant mother, kids, families and we will do nothing again. These mass shootings are happening here, we are talking about mass shootings and we seem to be letting mentally ill people purchase guns with great ease. Tell you what send your thoughts and prayers, so you feel better, because it's not helping one bit. Your entire post is bull ****, FYI
GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE... people using guns kill people. My point of other atrocities all over the world is that people commit mass acts of murder every where. They just might not use guns. They use starvation, bombs, poison, and god knows what other type of unimaginable things. If this guy really wanted to kill people, gun or no gun, he would have found a way. Is there a mental health problem? Most likely yes. Is there any way to stop a gun from ending up in a mentally unstable persons hands... not that I can think of without infringing on rights granted by our constitution , but I am just your every day simpleton with a high school education, with a moral compass that tends to point in the ok direction most of the time. sort of a sidebar... Fake News Alert: Yesterday FoxNews radio ran with the following "news" update [nearly verbatim] "Police said the gunman fled the scene in a vehicle when two bystanders confronted him. The bystanders gave pursuit and later found the gunman crashed on the side of the road, where it was determined that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound." Real news: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/11/06/hero-with-ar-15-nra-instructor/ The dude ran inside his house BAREFOOT, grabbed his rifle and loaded a handful of rounds into an empty magazine. He then went outside (still barefoot), took cover behind a vehicle, and engaged the gunman, scoring at least 1 hit to the chest which penetrated/missed the body armor. That subject then committed a carjacking/hostage taking and fled in the hostage's vehicle. Then the hero flagged down Mr. Johnny Neck Tattoo and both heroes gave chase. They then ran the subject off the road, and made sure the hostage was free and clear prior to re-engaging the gunman. Subsequent news reports indicate that the gunman was also hit twice in the neck/throat; and it is not clear if one of these bullet wounds was self-inflicted or a third hit by the hero. http://dailycaller.com/2017/11/06/texan-who-engaged-shooter-shares-his-story-video/ I posted all of this because everyone needs to understand just how deeply ingrained the Liberal agenda is embedded into mass media (even FoxRadio is left-leaning) and very pertinent facts are either twisted or completely omitted. If the shooter himself had been an NRA member [much less an instructor] every single headline would be a variation of "NRA member slaughters 26 innocent people". Fact- the NRA is THE oldest civil rights organization in the United States. There is no greater civil liberty than that of self defense. That right doesn't include a restriction as to how many rounds my magazines hold, or what caliber I can use. I need as big and how many I deem appropriate. "Why does anyone need more than 10 round magazines for self-defense"? I subject the following stories regarding the same incident. http://www.policemag.com/channel/pa...-fired-skokie-illinois-08-25-2008/page/3.aspx https://americanhandgunner.com/the-lessons-of-tim-gramins/ I wish I could find the video online - but I have seen it personally and it is educational to say the least. Long story short, over the course of a 60+ second firefight, the bad guy is hit a total of 17 times by .45 ACP 230 grain hollow points- and only ceases to fire at the officer when the 17th and final round enters into his brain and ends his life. Autopsy results indicated that the subject was hit in the heart, kidney, and 2 rounds to the face which did not incapacitate him. The subject had no alcohol or drugs in his system. The officer fired 33 rounds and conducted 3 magazine exchanges. The bad guy fired 21 rounds from 2 different pistols. The officer's duty weapon was a 13+1 capacity Glock 21. After the shooting, the officer switched to a Glock 17 9mm with 17+1 capacity - opting for higher capacity vs. higher caliber. Suffice to say, 10 rounds is not enough to engage 1 bad guy. In this and many other cases, 30 is not enough. So what makes anyone think 100 is too much? What if there were multiple assailants? My right to self defense is not trumped by your being "uncomfortable".
Your entire post is Tyranosaurus Rex ****, Germ. In fact, you are a human septic tank in desperate need of service.
Banning these firearms or limiting magazine capacities won't help I'm afraid. Where I'm from they kill groups of people with machetes or screw drivers, even bicycle spokes. Look at what happened recently in London and NYC, vehicles are used as weapons, not to mention IED's. I also find this a rather perplexing "trend". If people want to kill and do bad things to hurt others, they will find a way to accomplish this goal, with or without AR's. Its a sad reality I'm afraid. Thoughts and prayers for all those who have had people close to them murdered so senselessly.
Wow. I wasn't going to go that far. Trying to keep the thread from getting locked. Point is - good guy with an AR stopped a bad guy with an AR. You cannot argue that. And while I cannot "prove" that having more armed people inside the church would have prevented the massacre or at least mitigated the body count; that hypothetical is much more likely true than the farcical idea that additional gun laws laws of any sort short of a total police state would have prevented this from happening. It is a fact that once engaged by an opposing force, the gunman fled the scene. So it is reasonable to infer that if engaged earlier, the gunman would have ceased hostilities earlier either through his actual elimination as a threat (shot by or subdued by victims) or his perception that he was being opposed. It is reliably reported that the subject reloaded multiple times inside the church. Had just one parishioner engaged the subject during such a time it is very likely, if not probable, that the threat would have been eliminated. Furthermore, the fact is that there are already laws on the books that made his acquisition, possession, and usage of firearms illegal; not to mention the actual act of murder being illegal. He ignored/evaded all such laws. There are tens of millions of AR/similar style weapons in legal circulation. There are hundreds of millions of completely untraceable high capacity magazines in circulation; and God knows how many billions of rounds of ammunition. No law will ever get rid of them. Take personal responsibility for your personal safety. Otherwise, when Evil visits your door go cower in the corner and wait for those who choose to protect you to arrive and save the day- and until then, STHU and let them choose the tools with which to do so.
Because I want to try and help kids not get mowed down with 450 rounds? Sure that's fine, tell you what you go back and stick your head in the sand and dream of this mystical past judo/ christian america that has never existed. If any of you take your collective heads out of the sand you might see we can take some pretty simple steps to help migrated this in the future. 1. If any of the armed service discharge dishonorable or bad conduct we have an automated process writes one simple bit to the background check system, BuyGun = 0(which is no) 2.Same logic for local and states police for felonies, system is automated. 3.If you are on any mood alter drugs for depression, same deal 4.If you get check into any hospital for mental health, same deal No new laws, no bands, just a process changes to help stop mentally ill people from getting a gun legally. Do I know if this guy would have got one by other means, he might and then we deal with that best we can. At least we did something besides sending our "Prayer and Thoughts" Guess what it's not helping. So call me whatever you like because I want to try and do something. Anytime here christian values in one post and we are not going to do anything the next line, the post is bull ****
The tragedy aside; the hypocrisy of the Left knows literally no bounds. Like I was saying; even though within hours of the shooting the media reported the freaking Make and Model of the gunman's weapon of choice; somehow all day yesterday Fox radio was omitting even the fact that the hero engaged the gunman with a gun at all [they referred to the gunman as being "confronted by a BYSTANDER"] much less that it was the same style weapon the gunman was using...they couldn't even report a good guy with a gun stopped the carnage. It's sick. Seriously. Progressiveism is a mental disorder. It is a denial of reality.
As long as we have "news" starved media that pushes their anti gun agenda, these kind of ideas are going to continue to be put in the heads of all kings of people. 90% of the news the last couple days has been about this horrific shooting and anything anti Trump. "Reporters" and I use the term loosely can get by with saying about anything they want any more. They are trained in the theory; if it is news worthy, enhance it. If it isn't news worthy, make it that way. FACT: There are a lot more people killed by drunk drivers than by firearms ever year in this country. Do you ever hear about banning alcohol or the weapon used, vehicles?
I'm not a Christian. But I believe in the tenets of JudeoChristian social values. How about even if we could all just adhere to the Golden Rule? However, even that simplistic value is countermanded by just plain ol' Bat Crap Crazy. Some people are inherently Evil. Some are Crazy (capital C intended.) Some are BOTH Evil and Crazy. Which is why we need tools readily at hand to dispatch/defend against those who commit wholly Crazy and Evil acts. 1) already on the books- administrative oversight 2) already on the books 3) already on the books 4) HIPAA laws largely prevent; unfortunately. 5) you forgot homicide is already illegal in all 50 states. Those laws were ignored at least 17,250 times last year (homicide rate+ non-negligent manslaughter cases) Is there some legislative work to be done here? Sure. But none of them have anything to do with the tool used- How is it that a person who was prescribed anti-depressant/anti-psychotic meds as a teenager passed any sort of background check/med screening to join the Armed Forces??? Who dropped the ball at the Air Force and didn't report him to the FBI/NCIC? Is there a legal/technological mechanism which will allow us to further integrate mental health/NCIC records? It's hard to say because it quickly delves into personal privacy protections. And for those of you who point to DJT removing gun ownership restrictions on certain mental incapacitations; that was an Obama ExO that was being challenged in court and was likely to be overturned. It would have been a waste of DOJ resources; much less morally reprehensible to defend it in court. It was overly broad and applied even to people who are for instance; incapable of managing their personal finances but otherwise completely mentally fit and can determine moral right from wrong. Is such a person not privy to the right of self defense? Libs are the first people to say "better 100 guilty men go free than one innocent man be convicted." But also the first to say or infer that "the evil act of one man precludes the rights of the many." The ideals are diametrically opposed. You want to pass a law that would have prevented this? How about anyone who is convicted of domestic assault where an infant suffers a fractured skull shall be summarily taken out back of the courthouse, shot in the head, and his/her body tossed into the dumpster? Pretty sure THAT would have prevented this tragedy.
In South Africa our laws require some of these steps you listed. Besides the fact that actually obtaining your license is a 3 month long, and very difficult process, you need to renew your license every 5 years. If; 1. You've been fired from your job in the last 5 years 2. Gone through a divorce in the last 5 years 3. Been prescribed anti-depressants or diagnosed with a mental health disease in the last 5 years 4. Charged with a criminal offense in the last 5 years ...your license will be revoked and you will have to re-apply. Many countries, like Australia also have a government buy-back system which incentivizes the sale of unused firearms, thus minimizing the amount of "black-market" firearms on the streets. This is not necessarily my advice for what the USA should do, but just sharing some legal practices that have been adopted by other countries. Note, since these new gun-laws were implemented in 1994, over 500 000 South African have been murdered. This is an increase of approximately 33%.
Your faith in government isn't much different than a religious person's belief in god, sir. I'm cynical of both forms of faith or action. And I'm wary of "we must do something" mentalities at times of crisis. Look at how the fed government grew after 9/11/01. And for what exactly? We got the Patriot Act, the DHS, and still Jihadists have killed Americans here and abroad. But we must do something! Harumph!
When your family is slaughtered in their place of prayer come here and mock others for suggesting something change.
How many have they stopped? Do you know that number? I don't, but I have faith in people and I still believe we can reduce these events, reduce not eliminate. I wary of stick my head back in the dirt and do nothing, because we know for a fact, that's not working.
Note I said Automate the process, reduce the chance of "Administrative oversight" with automation, I do it every day here at work.
No need for that man. We can have differing opinions without being an ass about... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It is automated- but still requires someone to type a conviction into the computer and click "submit to NICS" Unless you want CyberDyne to automate and integrate the judge/jury; such data will always require human input which as previously stated is not exactly infallible.
