Good thing Trump reversed the law to restrict certain social security recipients from owning a gun legally, I mean not only do they get free money, they can buy a gun with our money, perhaps kill the citizens who helped provided them with the money, God Bless America, LOL Never mind we are that stupid.
Mental health medical attention is not as readily available as you think, and if it is voluntary, a weekend stay in a psych unit is going to cost you tens of thousands of dollars and insurance will not touch one cent of it. There is serious problems with the mental healthcare in this country. Not saying it is the only problem, or that it necessarily goes hand in hand with all the mass shootings. Also unfortunately a lot of psych units are filled with repeat drug abusers who take a bad trip, limiting the space for people that actually want/need help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What a world we live in. Bulletproof backpacks now being offered at a Florida school. BULLETPROOF BACKPACKS FOR CHILDREN. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/education/article182405026.html I wish I had answers on what could prevent some of this from happening. Help me understand why that is even needed.
As clarification, from what I've read he received a Bad Conduct Discharge (BCD), which is different than a Dishonorable Discharge.
I think a big problem is how we treat mental conditions today. There isn't any new mental illness other than in name. The problem is today the big treatment plan is throwing drugs at the problem, where in the past people worked to learn how to cope with their particular problem. I don't think people would have a problem with a similar restriction on people with diagnosed serious mental illness from owning a gun just like a felon. Where some question would come in would be what is considered that qualifying Mental Illness.
I agree. My wife works in a psych unit and there primary care directive is to throw psych meds at the patients, of course there are counselors and therapist available as well, but I’d say 80% of the people don’t actually want to seek the help. If they are court ordered committed, they do what they have to to get out, and then go right back to what they were doing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
States took away all the funding, here in Michigan we closed majority the metal health hospitals down, released them.
Laws to an extent so stop crimes. Before fully autos went illegal, they were used a lot in crime. In the last 10 years I haven't even heard of a crime involving fully autos, and I live in nyc. A crazy guy in the Las Vegas hotel with a bolt action rifle isn't quite the same as dude with a semi auto AR style. The "right to bear arms....defend against a tyranny" line is such bs. The current government is tyranny, where is the armed revolt? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I hope you are not serious in thinking because a fully auto was not used that the crime still didn't happen with a semi-auto.
All due respect, but he could have killed more than 50 people with several dialed-in high-powered rifles with good glass on them. For a long time, folks thought they were only hearing fire crackers at the LV concert. Well placed rounds rather than spray? He might have stayed under the radar for a disgustingly long time. Charles Whitman killed a lot of innocents before they even figured out where he was holed up. I cannot disagree more about America 2017 being a tyranny. Good Lord, sir. Every once in awhile the opposing party wins the WH. You'll live and won't wind up in a gulag, I promise.
By choosing to bury your head about what's actually causing more deaths becaue its the stylish thing to only discuss assault weapon. Something that accounts for 5% or less gun fatalities. I'm not against stopping anything but banning ar15's or similar firearms is a drop in the bucket on gun violence. So if its not a particular weapon problem is it a ammo capacity problem, every gun I own can have high cap mags purchased for it, all the way from my AR to my glock, so ban then too right? So maybe it's mental health, forget the availabily argument, how to get get 4are you gonna get people to use it if is made available? Force periodic checkups for anyone that owns firearms? Availability of care isn't the problem, Dr's and hostpitals on health6 are everywhere and on average how many choose to go every time they have the sniffles? Very few that I know and imagine its same everywhere. So its not burying my head, come up with a solution that actually solves a problem, the whole problem, and maybe people would listen. Besides just screaming we haveta do something about these AR's, cause apparently its only about stopping gun violence if thats whats used. Or is this a 12 step program to see what's used next? In case anybody wants to know here's the 2016 number or at least website they can be found if didnt copy right to table showing them. You decide for yourself is you hitching to right wagon to "do something." https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/crime-in-the-u.s.-2016/tables/table-12 Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
True but besides availability, how to you make anybody seek treatment? So to say well Canada has it readily available doesn't guarantee treatment. Especially with the population differences, look to the VA for a pretty good example. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Just like Vegas... There is nothing anyone can do. Simply go to church and pray for the mentally ill and hope you don't get killed while praying for them (it's sad that this is actually a reality of what's happening).
Same in Iowa. Funding cut, 3 main mental hospitals closed, so everything gets sent to hospital psych units which are always full and crowded now and are not for long term care. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You can’t make anyone seek treatment more than you can make anyone follow the law. But there can still be more done for mental health period. It’s not talked about enough. It’s still stigmatized heavily. Hell some people think it’s not even real. Even I don’t know how it can happen. I’ve never had to experience it. But the things I’ve learned from my wife, and the experiences she has had, and shared with me are crazy eye opening things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I guess you can get anything you want if you want it bad enough. Hand grenades, pipe bombs, ARs etc... It is that we live in a very violent culture here in America?

The church shooting just really pissed me off this morning. I don't know what else to say than I am disappointed that we live like this..frigging fruitcakes dressing up in fatigues and buying high powered guns and slaughtering people.

All you folks ready to accept whatever gun laws the politicians will pass just need to ask for a law that makes killing illegal. I'm sure that will fix the problem. Should be super simple. This is the dumbest bunch of crap I've read lately. No, I'm sure there aren't any shootings that happen in any other country...people are shot to death every hour all over the world.
