Ok guys, I made a post last year about this property. I picked it up mid season and quite honestly just hunted from climbers and was stomping around like a idiot all season just trying to learn the area and try to get lucky. So now I have a much better understanding of this place and wanted to see what you guys think. So obviously the red lines is the property line. The property is split by the landowners home, so I call the bush at the back the north bush and the one at the bottom the south bush. You can see the orange line in the north bush. That is a atv trail about 8' wide and clear. The pink line in the north and south bushes are deer trails I have found. Heavily tramped on, tons of sign. So this past spring I set stands and cameras in two spots where I felt were the best spots about last years recon. I marked them with the red dots. South Bush Basically the best way to describe this is a huge valley! The property line is the highest point and it slopes about 150' in elevation at least towards land owners house and lake at back. So I have a stand at the top of the hill on the deer trail. I would see does almost every sit last year in this spot. Anywhere else in the south bush would be really tough to hunt. The top of the hill has some hard woods like oaks and maples. The rest down the hill is all thick cedars and is bedding. So the deer always came up from almost right behind the landowners house and would come up the hill towards my corn, and feed out on the neighbours property. I don't think there is much else I can do here, but let me know if you see any good spots for a stand? I like where I am as I don't march in to their bedding and don't risk spooking deer. On the neighbours property you can see that small pond. Next to that is a small wood lot all Oaks. ACORNS!!! like crazy, I thought of hunting their, but I like where I am because they come before dark. Out in open I may not see them until dark. North Bush You can see where I set stand. Currently all camera pics are early to late morning. Zero evening shots. All the morning pics the deer are coming from the North of the East. Behind me on that stand you can see the large wetlands region. Well those wood lots to the west are all thick cedars which is where I assume they are bedding hence all the morning pics with them walking in that direction. And the wood lot inside the atv trail is all hardwoods, twigs, etc. So I think its pretty safe to say they eat on my property but sleep on the neighbours to the west. I wanted to hand one more stand on this property. Give me your ideas?? I was thinking at the very edge at the north. You can see on the lake edge there is a small pond area on the neighbours property. Here is a pic of that spot from last year. There was a lot of sign travelling from the neighbours to the north east corner coming into my property towards the ATV trail. Its a nice hidden watering hole, I could sit with the lake at my back. My only fear is walking in through the atv trail all that way will spook every deer in there? because coming in the early morning based on my other info the deer are in those woods feeding. So maybe only use it as a night spot? But then risk spooking everything on my way out? What are your thoughts? Any help ?? thanks
If you clear the dead leaves off that atv trail it should allow for a silent entry to the stand. Also that deer trail that goes through the narrow part of the lake looks like a major pinch point. Also find all of the trails that lead out of the cedar bedding area in the south Bush, maybe the buck or bucks using the bedding are traveling in and out a "back way" or something of that sort. From what I can tell, you haven't encountered or gotten pics of many bucks? It's hard to get the whole story with just a couple trAil cams. I would put them over mineral courseor corn or apples to concentrate activity to your camerA. Hope this was of any help. If not, enjoy that property because if nothing else it has some pretty cool terrain! Good luck! Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk
