Hi guys I'm new to the site but not new to archery I have a 13 yr old boy that I got started shooting with his bear apprentice 3 last year and decided to buy my own rig to shoot along with him Long story short I bought a Martin threshold 30-40 lb bow that ended up maxxing out at 28 in draw length and I need 29.5 in i was disappointed that Martin advertised the bow at 29 in max on their website then got told by them that biggest module they make for it is 28 in Anyway the bottom line is I need help choosing a budget rig to shoot with my son and was hoping everyone could make some suggestions on what to buy. My budget is $250 and not a penny more $200 would be even better and a bare bow would be fine as I already have everything to outfit it Also this will not be a hunting rig I will only be shooting it at 25 yds or less in our large back yard with my son just for shooting practice and take it along on camping trips just for fun Only real requirements I need are it needs to be a compound bow and be adjustable to 29-30 in draw length And 40-70 lbs draw weight there are plenty of rigs on e bay in my price range new but since I'm not up to date on what's decent vs junk I figured I'd see if anyone can get me up to speed on budget equipment Thank you all for any suggestions Divr6347
My advice would be to head down to your local archery shop and ask if you can shoot some of their budget bows. Find one that you like and then if it isn't the right price in the store, you can go search for it online.
http://hoyt.com/compounds/klash Great for kids growing and needing to adjust DL-18-29" with a DW adjustable from 15-50lbs or 15-70lbs
Facebook Marketplace and ebay are good places to look too. I found a PSE Drive LT for $230 that had a QAD Ultra rest on it already. All i had to do was get a sight, stabilizer, and a quiver and i went out and put down a 133" buck this past year. if you keep your eyes open, you'll find a steal like that. The Drive LT is a pro series bow that even used ones at my local shop go for $400-500.
I would say start searching on Craigslist. If you are not too specific on what exactly you want, there are literally thousands of bows that will give you what you are looking for. You can always compare the Craigslist price with other prices on ebay to determine if you are getting a good deal. The great thing about Craigslist as well is that you can try out the bow to see if you like it before actually buying it, and they usually have all of the accessories that you need as well.
Thanks for the replies guys My local bow shop is a waste of time !! Hate to say that but it's true unfortunatly All the guys there are very rude don't like to give out free information and are very unwilling to show u anything unless you are going to buy your bow from them They have a fee of $15 to shoot any of thier bows on the shelf per bow !! And don't work on any bow not purchased from them Enough said about that thier worthless to me On the flip side there is a bow shop about 2 hrs west of me that is the best shop I have ever been to The guys are friendly very knowledgeable and willing to help wether u buy anything from them or not And they will let u shoot any bow in thier shop on thier range at no cost low and behold when I took my sons bow there a few weeks ago to get it dialed in they told me they had 5 yes 5 bows in thier shop for service that were shipped to them by people from my town as they all said they will never go to our local bow shop ever again lol Seems I'm not the only one who doesn't shop there Anyway I'm just going to look around and see if I can find something to shoot for under $250 it doesn't have to be new a used one would be fine as long as it's in good shape and I don't need anything fancy with a ton of speed either as it will just be a casual shoot when I can bow no hunting or anything with it Hopefully I'll find something soon we will see Divr6347
Wow, that's pretty sad. It's usually the difference between a guy whose love for the sport controls his customer outlook and a guy whose love for money controls his customer outlook. I'm very thankful for my local guy. He not only sells bows lower than the listed price, he doesn't charge a dime to assemble your accessories for you or assisting you in any fining tuning. He will also let you come in and shoot anytime you want for no charge. Now that is customer service! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Craigslist and a couple hundred extra bucks for your local bow shop to give it a once over, maybe get a new string and cut ya a few proper arrows that fit you and the poundage you shoot. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
