http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/vixia-hf-g30-refurbished Here you go Matt, I would buy this refurbised G30 in a heart beat over the G20.
The outfitter arm will work great with the g20/30. If your just filming in the timber you could probably get by with 10x zoom. I started with the g20 but within a week it was back on its way to canon and switched to the g30. I couldn't stand just having the 10x zoom
I saw the refurb g30. It's $739 and a refurb g20 is $539. I just felt like 10x would be fine for purely timber but I also value your guy's input. What else is the benefit of the G30 over the g20 other than the zoom? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The G30 has a larger sensor which means better video quality, better color and more importantly better in low light. The 20x zoom is nice when you need it, but plenty of guys have survived on 10x for bowhunting purposes and never ran into a major issue. The most important part of filming is getting the shot and at archery distances your zoom won't really play a factor. The 20x zoom really only comes in handy when filming deer or other critters at a distance. If you can swing it the G30 is definitely a better camera but if not I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
Well guys I finally did it. After a lot of thought I just ordered the Canon G20. I have a really cheap camera arm I bought awhile back with some sort of mini head on it. It's from a company called HME and it was like $20. It might be junk but I'm going to try it out before I go all out and get a muddy arm and a manfratto fluid head etc. I also got the azden shotgun mic smx10 and I had to purchase an adapter in order to use it. So the refurbished canon G20, azden shotgun mic and adapter, HME cam arm/mini head for right at $750.
