Now that sux. wouldn't it be great if they get caught, and you get to do a pinnata treatment on them. I'd say it worth at least 2 broken hands. As for truck, I'd lean towards a crew, diesel, 4" exhaust, superboost, chipped, 3/4 ton.

Matt, I had a 2000 Chevy 1500 Z-71 Ext. Cab with the 5.3L. Trust me, there is nothing about that truck that screamed fuel economy. It had a hard tonneau on it and still would struggle to see 16 MPG on the highway. I was around 13-14 everywhere else. I was running slightly bigger tires at the end of my time with it, 265's vs the standard 245's, and they were BFG A/T's, but I was pretty much wasting my time with the half-ton, putting her through hell on the farm for no real savings.

Hence why I bumped up, and of course down on mileage, to a Sierra 2500HD Ext. Cab with the 6.0L. Better on the farm, even crappier on the fuel mileage. But the way I look at it, I need that truck to SAFELY haul stuff around the farm and the 1500 just wasn't safe with some of the loads. I remember hauling over 10,000 lbs (with the trailer weight added in) on that 1500. Granted, it wasn't all on the trailer tongue or anything, but it is still moving weight. It had the balls to get it rolling, just was a death trap when it came to braking.

So I see your point about the 1500 and fuel mileage. I know some guys have half-ton trucks and expect to see good mileage for a truck. I guess I know what I am gaining by giving up the high MPG's. I also understand why for some, fuel mileage is often overlooked for a myriad of OTHER reasons. Mine was safety and the fact that HD's handle the hard work better. Some people just like the look of the HD's better or they travel the globe with a camper.

This truck seriously should have been a diesel (you can get some outrageous MPG's with those) but I guess I am the odd man out with a gasser in the days of a hardcore "diesel" movement.

    I haven't seen the 09 tailgates...whats the deal?

I have the 08 F-350 diesel, and I think there's a leak in the fuel tank.:violin: All in all I love the truck, although it does have one of those sissy bars and step on the tailgate. I won't lie.......I did use it a couple of times.[IMG]

Sorry about your truck. Hope the dillweed that hit you gets what's coming to him.

I just read an article about how bad (auto) sales were and went by the dealer to look at trucks. Took one look at the sticker and thought WTF NO wonder sales are down. Who the freak can afford that.
What makes me mad is I have a real good idea what it costs to build 'em. They told us last year what they have in one of ours off the end of the line...(I'm a tool maker for Mitsubishi)...and you have to wonder who's making all that profit. (The difference is shocking)

Hope ya find a truck that suits your needs. Good Luck.

Bols, I do agree with you about MPG. You actually USE, and I mean USE your truck. MPG is a factor for a lot of guys since it's also their DD. Granted, I know a truck is a truck, and it's never going to get car like mpg, but I like to have a least decent efficiency. My brother in law has an 05 LTZ 4x4 with the 5.3, and slightly larger BFG A/Ts (31.5"), and he can pull about 20mpg on the highway (I've been with him). He gets about 15mpg city/combined driving pretty hard.

That's the only first hand experience I have with chevy's, but in your case, you NEED a truck to work, and I agree there, mpg shouldn't matter as much. You want a truck that's going to hold up to your demands. Props to you for using trucks the way they were meant :D

I would go with another Z71. I am a Chevy guy though. Here is a pic of my 08. It did get good mpg until I put the lift on. Glad to here that you are ok.

Got the police report they never found the people that hit me but they found the car.It was reported stolen after the cops found the car.:bash: It was stolen from a car rental place at Ohare. How do you steal a car from Ohare? I smell inside job drug runners.:busted:

As for the truck prospects it depends on how much the insurance company comes up with for my truck. I smell an argument in my future. This whole thing sucks. Thanks for all the replys I'll let you know when I get something.
