I pulled an arrow out of my target and the $%$@ insert pulled out of the arrow. Now I have a broadhead and insert stuck in my target. I thought I could just poke a wire in there and "feel" the broadhead then cut it out. For the life of me I can't find it . Any suggestions?
When my last broadhead target was nearing the end of its life, I had this happen a couple times. I simply tore it apart until I found my head(s), and then I left it in that state and continued shooting until it finally bit the dust completely.
Magic, Do you have one of those extendable magnets used in the garage? Probe a few layers until you can feel it and then carefully go in after it.
it's a broadhead target and I'd never get a magnet in there. I hate to hit it and ruin both broadheads. Maybe I should take it to the hospital and have it x-rayed. LOL Part of the problem is I was shooting b-4 I hunted and was thinking more about my hunt then the shooting and when it pulled off I didn't mark the entry hole.
Just take an arrow with a field point and start poking around in different areas until you hit it??? Bad deal there Magic.
Could you rub a magnet along the outside of the target to find the broadhead? Once you find it then cut it open enough to get the broadhead out. No need for the magnet to actually be in the target.
I tried that with a thin wire. Because it's a broadhead target it really creates drag on whatever you try to push in there and there are multiple different layers making feeling anything tough. I know it's way to deep to feel it with a magnet from the outside. I even thought of trying a metal detector. I just hate to ruin the target and I hate to ruin 2 broadheads and I would also be afraid to shoot the arrow again if I score a diect hit on the insert. Anyway, I guess it's just one of those things! I'm just thankful it's not a 3-d target!
Maybe probing from the other side? do you get enough penetration that the BH is more than 1/2 way in? I had it happen to me last night with a POC arrow and a glue on Magnus 2 blade. I was able to reach it with a pair of needle nose pliers but I had to really force the pliers in.
Try spraying that arrow with the field point on it with some lubricant. It will make sliding it in and out very easy.:D
If it's shallow enough, poke around, and pull it out with a fair of thin, long pliers. I had one come off in my Yellow Jacket the other day, and I was able to get to it with the pliers after a little prying. It came right out.
