As most of you know I am fairly new to bows and bowhunting. I went target shooting the other day and noticed my limb has a small splinter. I know enough to know that this isn't good, but I don't know what my options are now. I don't have enough $$ to buy a new bow. Can this be fixed or can I get a new limb? Here are some pics of the damage.
Where is the best place to look for new limbs? I did a quick google search and not much seems to be available. I have a call into the local Mathews dealer, but they didn't seem too confident.
They just told me to contact my local dealer. After reading some on the web, that appears to be how Mathews works, for better or worse.
Bummer. Unfortunately that's what happens when companies get too big. The best warranties in the world don't do any good if nobody is there to stand behind them. I hope your local dealer is a good one.
Thanks, I just talked with them at lunch and they are looking into it. They have been good to deal with in the past, so hopefully they can take care of me this time as well.
Did you buy the SQ2 new from the dealer? The warranty does not trasfer to new owners. I found a post stating they were $80/limb in 2005.
I wasn't even thinking about the warranty, I am just concerned the limbs won't be available. But thanks for the info.
If you cant get limbs for your bow , Barnsdale will make them for you for $150.00 a set http://www.barnsdalearchery.com/CUSTOMWORK.html
Thanks for the link Hoosier. Have you ever used these products? Would be nice to here from someone who has tried this before.
And I have NEVER been the one to bad talk a bow, always said "Shoot whatever your happy with"... And I shot a Matthews for almost 6 years (4 different bows).. Everyone of them had cracked limbs within a year or two.. Unfortunately, I had enough of my bow in the shop so I bought another bow.. I was the biggest DIE HARD Matthews guy on the face of the earth, but seemed that it was a reoccurring issue.. The owner of the bow shop showed me a box full of limbs that had to be sent back.. All were Matthews.. AGAIN, shoot what makes you happy, but you said you were new and was trying to educate you in things that happen.. Good luck........
I've had two limb issues and both were taken care of at no cost to me. Not sure if you said, but are you the original owner of this bow?
No, I am not the original owner. I am not so worried about having to pay for new limbs unless they are outrageous, in which case I may have to go with Hoosier's suggestion. My OP was basically to find out what my options were. I didn't know if you could fix the limb, or if I had to get new ones. Or possibly some other option I wasn't aware of.
Yes i have used him many of times , infact most laminated limbs on major bow companys today comes from him , i built a few bows just playing around one i used a 07 Martin Cheetah riser , a set of Bowtech Admiral Cams , i then called Barnsdale for a set of 60 lbs laminated limbs and had Pro Strings make me a set of strings , one heck of a Hunting bow now my back up bow it turned out to be its whisper quiet and pretty fast 326 fps with a 30'' axle to axle and a 6 1/4'' brace height and super light .
It doesn't appear that the crack is deep, just a thin sliver. IF this is the case, You can cut that off, smooth it with some very fine paper and put a glue on it to seal it. IF it is truly "de-laminating" then new limbs are your only option for safety. Good luck to ya and hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction.
Mathews stocks parts, including limbs, for every bow model they ever sold. You can not say that about any other brand. Try getting a cam for a 3 year old discontinued bow from Hoyt or PSE. You can get any part for a 1995 Mathews, and free if you are the original owner. They have great CS. You can not expect any company to deal with millions of customers directly, that is why they have dealers. If you contact your local Mathews dealer he can get new limbs. If you are the original owner the limbs will be free. You may have to pay for labor. My dealer never charges me for work but I bought my last 3 bows ( and most everything else) from him. I may pay a tad bit more but keeping a local in business is far more important to me than ordering online and fighting for service to save 6 dollars. I own a local small business. If you are not the original owner and buy limbs, the new ones you buy will have a lifetime warranty also.
