I shot an 8 pointer lastnight. 35 yards broadside. Arrow went all the way through. Buck took off running about 20 yards and came to a slow walk. Head down and tail tucked while flickering like crazy. Looked at the spot where I shot but didn’t find blood. Thoughts? I had to work this morning but will be going to look again shortly.
Where did you hit him? Looks like a lot of meat and fat, which is never a good sign in my experience.
I’m not sure. I think I hit him low. But when I watched him walk off he looked messed up with his head low and tail tucked and flickering like crazy
Fat and white hair.... Not a good sign man. I would get a dog on him if that's allowed. If not look for bedding. It was not a quick death I'm afraid. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
Fat and white hair. Head down and tail flickering, I'm thinking a really low shot through guts. Hopefully the fat just wiped all the blood off the arrow, and hopefully you clipped liver. But that is not good sign on that arrow. He's had a lot of time if you shot him last night and are working all day before going to look. Hopefully he bedded up somewhere close. A tracking dog will greatly improve the chances of finding him. Tracking dogs struggle if you track the area up before hand, keep the area untouched and get a dog on it.
Meat, fat, white hair, no blood, and a suspected low hit, my guess is that you shot him through the brisket. Meaning you just caught the meat on the very bottom of the chest. I’ve never seen that much meat on a arrow from a shot through the vitals or guts. You never know for sure unless you find him though. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
