I am interested in hearing how old you all think these bucks are. Not all the pics show the whole body but I tried to post the ones that show the most. Thanks very much for any input. 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.)
It is tough this time of year, especially without seeing the belly sag. I'll throw in my 2 cents though. #1. Nice buck, probably 4, you can't really tell with the pic not showing much body. #2 I think he is a 3 year old with good genes, his eyes are very round still and his back doesn't dip at all (could be the way he is standing). The rest are also probably three year olds.
Too me, they all look like 3.5 year old deer. A few MIGHT be some whopper 2.5's though, its hard to tell this time if year.
Man I really hate these skinny neck buck pics. Going mostly by rack size, because that's all there is on most of em. Also going by the midwest bucks I usually see. 1=4 years 2=3 years 3&4=2 years
Thanks very much for the input. That is exactly why I was asking, because I find it pretty hard to judge bucks in the summer (although I know of some people that will argue that). Also, without being able to see the rear-end compared to the shoulders, I really wasn't sure about #1, and I guessed 4 yrs. on him... I don't think #2 is 4 years old yet but I'd shoot him in a heartbeat. I think #3 and #4 are 2 year olds, with the possibility of #3 being 3 years old. The first 2 bucks are buddies, and the only ones that seem to actually travel together all the time instead of just grouping up in the beans. (Until they become enemies in a few months :D) After going back and looking I found a better body pic of #1 (below). Maybe this will help. Thanks again for the input.. I am not a worried about what they would score (considering I'd shoot any of them) but I like to know how old the bucks are that use our farm. They are all great deer in my book, but honestly if #4 gives me a shot, I am going to have a hard time drawing back, knowing what may show up... #1 and #2 might as well be 300" deer in my eyes. 4 years old? This pic may help you guys, but it is a prime example of why I find it hard to judge in the summer. Thanks again though, your guys' input has helped a lot.
