Giving this guy the pass last year was definitely the right call. Now I just need to get him in bow range again this year... It's hard to tell from one pic but I believe he's got 16 scorable points this year. Splits on both brows, both G2's and inside tines on both beams. I have to figure he'll go easily in the 180's if not more with the junk. Only one way to find out for sure.
Hope you drop him and get good footage of it. It would send a positive message to those of us who are also thinking about raising the bar by letting those 3 yr olds walk. Good call last season. I wouldn't have been able to do that yet. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I was just messing with you, I didn't 't think you guys would do that to each other. Looking forward to story of the chase. Good luck this season
I think any time you let a deer walk you need to be mentally prepared for him to disappear, get shot by another hunter, etc. It's just part of the game, and can still happen this year. Sure I'll be disappointed if someone else shoots him, but I'll also be okay with it and the decision I made last year. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't. My guess is more often than not it doesn't. Also, it's important to realize that not every deer has the potential to be B&C caliber. In fact, most of the deer on this same farm never reach 150" no matter how long they happen to live. Here's a deer I shot at and missed back in 2013 when he was a 3 year old, 130" buck. Four years later he's now 7 years old and may break into the 140's if he's lucky. It's a crappy zoomed in pic, but this is the same deer in 2013.
Try it now and let me know. I've been having weird issues with Google Photos from time to time. Moved a copy to Imgur instead.
