Hi Hans O from Norway here, born 77. Married, and father of two boys (born 03 and 09) and one girl (born 07), all beeing tought to enjoy the outdoor-life. Spend almost all weekends and vacations in our mountaincabin here, but also uses one of our tents now and then hiking all year. Flyfishing is my main hobby, always been into hunting as well but it has been put down for a couple of years due to lack of time. Kids growing makes me able to use more of my sparetime on hobbies again, so a bowpackage is on it`s way :D I also enjoy photographing, and pretends to be a boardgameplayer now and then (so much more social than PS3 and all the videogames people get stuck with....) New to bowhunting\shooting. Been planning to buy a bow for over ten years, but time has never been there and bowhunting has been\is illegal in Norway. However, now there is a hearing on it`s way and we might see a new law that makes bowhunting legal again, at least for a test-period of three years. And if not, I`m old enugh to tavel over seas to be able to hunt now Not to many active bowhunters in Norway, and little activity on the bowhunting forums we got. So I`ll stick around here as well, to see if there is a trick or two to learn -and answers for my many many questions to find
Thx everyone, bowhunting.com is surely the right place to be if you`re into bowhunting. Many many threads, and lots of help to find. The key on forums like this is to seperate the true answers from the untrue
Hans, if you don't mind, why would bowhunting be illegal? Not owning/ shooting though correct? Is all game hunting illegal? Sorry for the questions, welcome aboard. Post some pics of the mountains if you would like, we would sure like you too!
I cant imaging Bowhunting being Illegal! Hope the hearing goes in your favor and takes off from there. Good luck with that and welcome to Bowhunting.com
Thanks again guys! Regarding the reason why bowhunting is illegal in Norway; back in the 70`s the law was rewritten. And for one reason they made the text "hunting is only legal with weapons driven with gunpowder" You could\can still use traps and such, but with the use off weapons they had to be driven with powder... Since 1985 the Norwegian bowhunting federation has fought to get bowhunting legal again. Never been closer, the only thing thats left now is this hearing and that the goverment changes the text in the law. For now the closest countries wich we can bowhunt in are Finland, Sweden (they are in a 5year bowhunting-testperiod) and Denmark. Planning on a trip to Finland next year, but my biggest dream is to come over to Wyoming for elk and Canada\Alaska for caribou!!! One day, one day..... I`m really into this now! Checking out all clips I can find on youtube and vimeo, reading all I can on the subject on the net. Can`t get enough off it, you guys (and girls) really now how to make shows (except for the commercial, not used to so much commercial here in Norway...) Heartland Bowhunter, Bowhunt or Die, Outback Outdoor, EP Adventure, Live the wild life TV, and so on and so on... To bad the shipping is so expensive from USA to Norway, I would have bought every single dvd\blu-ray I could get my hand on from these shows if not. But a single dvd usally gets more than twice the price when it ends up in my hands here in Norway... My bow arrived about a month ago and I`ve been shooting every day since then. Found great tips here on bowhunting.com regarding how to improve my shooting, and it really pays out. Hoping to be able to try for the IBEP-certification this autmn if the chance will apply here in Norway. Some pics; Autmn view from my cabin My daugter out trying ice-fishing 1kilo browntrout on a dry fly, a big moment in my life :D My cabin by night My son crosscountry-skiing This is the life My two Siberian Huskies
Welcome Hans, Some great pictures there and thanks for sharing them. You will certainly enjoy this site and you will find that everyone is very helpful. Enjoy. My great grandfather came over from Sweden back in the late 1800's. He was a jeweler and watch/clockmaker. I have always wanted to visit that part of the world. A beautiful place..Someday!!
Thanks again guys. I live near a place called The Pulpit Rock wich is one of Norways biggest tourist attractions, if you ever come to Norway be sure to check it out. A two hour hike up (well, thats what they tell tourist, if I`m out with my dogs I easily walk up and down in an hour and a half...) and you`ll get this view; from the mountain surrounding it. This is a timelapse (not done by me) with over 5000 pics off the Pulpit rock during 24 hours. Only 15min to drive from my house to where the trail starts, so if you ever need free guiding here you know who to contact @ttraveler; Many, many escaped Norway and Sweden during late 1800\early 1900 due to both countries beeing really poor. Also my family, I`ve found som distant relatives over in USA who still have the name Seljeskog (wich in fact is an old family-farm close to where I live ) ---I had an accidental dry-fire here the other day, and beginner as I am I was afraid that I had to send my bow to an pro-shop (far far away from here, would have been weeks without a bow). But a search here told me that I`m not the first to dry-fire, and a close look on limbs, string and the rest of the bow didn`t show any cracks so I`m still shooting it
