Way back in the mid 70's, I bought a Bear Whitetail Hunter and used it for a couple of years in Wisconsin, with limited success. Never had time for hunting until I moved to Michigan, and now, 12 years later, I'm a little tired of hunting with a rifle in November in snow up to my knees. Long story short, I'm thinking about pulling out the old Bear, and after some intense practice this spring and summer, trying my hand again at bow hunting next fall. Since the bow is still like new, I'd like to use it but I'm wondering about some of the new accessories that weren't even thought about back in the 70's, like the new and expensive arrow rests and releases. I'm not even sure that the Whitetail Hunter will take one of the new rests, or will I have to use the old stick on type that I believe Bear still makes. And I've heard that a lot of guys still "finger release" as opposed to using the new trigger release. I'll definitely get the bow checked by an archery guy before using it, but I'd like to have some idea what I want to use on it before he tries to sell me accessories worth three times the original price of the bow. Any advice or thought will certainly be appreciated. Thanks in advance Veteran
Yo.. Hello Vet Welcome to the site! A Bear Whitetail Hunter... boy is that an oldie - had one myself. I still know an Amish dude that hunts with one. He does not have any new accessories on it though... pretty much shoots it by instinct. That's a smart idea to have it checked out by an archery shop before using it. Best of luck this year!
