I am new to hunting in all aspects. I have been a life long fisherman and decided to take up hunting this year. After a week long solo rifle elk hunt this year where I did not fill my OTC bull elk tag, I am addicted to the pursuit. Next week I pick up my first compound bow so I can extend my hunting time next year. I am getting a PSE React. My buddy that runs the local archery department here is a former junior olympic archer and very successful bow hunter so I am stoked to head down this very very deep rabbit hole.

I have lived here most of my life. I am 43. Crazy how I am just now discovering hunting. And I live in one of the best states for it.

Ya I'm quite jealous although deer hunting isn't to shabby in Iowa. But I would love to Colorado in a heartbeat.

I was blown away that an OTC bull elk tag cost me $49. I spotted a big guy and his cows in the first two hours of third season but I just couldn’t get a good shot at him in the conditions we were in. It was an ethical choice but I now can think of 100 ways I could have ethically made it work and been successful my first time out. Hind sight. Lol.

Good luck to you in the future! Be prepared to lose sleep, spend lots of money, and think about hunting every day. I haven't killed an elk yet but have gone out there twice in the last 3 years. Maybe the stars will align for me in 2018.

Spend a couple weeks on a fire detail on the other side of the pass in Deloras, and bought a 1974 Scout from a guy in Durango.

Nice. I spent one night hunting up the West Delores road. Beautiful up there.
