I normally dont wear matching camo depending on the weather. The only time I wouldnt wear not matching camo is snow camo and regular camo when there isnt snow on the ground. And to answer your question about face camo it is not completely necessary but sometimes I do like to wear facepaint to break up my image a little bit more. I hope this helps.

I have always worn Realtree AP. I believe it has enough mix to fit in pretty much anywhere and is very easy to find. I like to wear face paint instead of a mask. The mask has always limited my view.

Hey, man. First off where are you from? Your landscape will play a role in what pattern you're going to want. Lost camo is great stuff, but there are equally effective patterns out there. 2 years ago I bought all new setup Rocky Athletic Mobility in Realtree APHD. Awesome camo for the price. I bought everything from base layers fleece layers and outer layers. I plan on getting some Lost Camo for next year...

I wash everything I wear with scent control wash. I don't really know about if the base layers control scent unless they say it does in the description.

Your camo doesn't HAVE to match, but it's always a good idea to match it up.

I always cover my face either with face paint (early season) or balaclava (late season).

I try to be as comfortable in the woods as I can.

As far as what brand of camo is the best. There are none they all do the same thing, personal preference.

I've got a buddy that kills giant deer every year and he just wears light brown Carhartts and a hoodie.

Well, you are in the right place. Just need to ask yourself one question. Do you feel lucky? Well...do ya?

If you take things one step at a time you will do better. Keep reading, shoot your bow, and camouflage is geographically specific to where you plan on hunting. You don't wear a snow pattern in the desert. The best thing to do is listen. Quiet is good..

I would worry more about the quality of the camo instead of the pattern. How it fits you, the material it is made out of, and how warm or dry it will keep you. One thing for sure is to avoid cotton.

As for the pattern. A lot of guys on here love the predator camo patterns. Their open patterns are supposed to really break out the human outline, which is what you want in a camo. Predator has tons of different open patterns for all regions that hunters are in.

I personally use Realtree APG for now. It shows a lot of detail, but it's meant to appeal to the human eye more than the deer. Having said that, I've had deer that have walked right below me or 20 yards past me(ground hunting) without picking me out. But I've also had deer pick me out very easily.

A camo pattern will only help you so much. As long as you have a good back drop and/or front cover you could use all sorts of patterns. A guy on this forum once told me that any camo pattern will work as long as you stay still. :tu:

If you're stalking or mainly ground hunting maybe consider some sort of ghillie suit? The most important thing is to move slowly and stay in the shade.

For my face I use a face mask and paint.

If you buy a new piece of clothing you should make sure that there is no uv light being emitted from it. Take a black light a run it over it. If it glows then you should buy the uv killer spray at Walmart or any sporting goods store and spray down the garment.

Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity is my whole suit. Had a couple fork bucks come 10 yards to me ground hunting and didn't even noticed I was anything of harm. Of course my scent killer probably played a huge role in that too, ScentBlocker makes good stuff. But in Oregon I would suggest Mossy Oak Break Up Infinity... Looks good and has a good quality of green.

As an alternative to Mossy Oak Break-up there's also Realtree Extra with green.

Ive said in another of your threads I think comfort comes before pattern. The quality and material play a big role in that. I think ASAT works well. A lot of patterns just blob out at a distance. They look cool up close, but far away you just look like a green or brown blob. Thus the comment above about picking an open pattern. Odds are playing the wind will matter more than your camo pattern.

I agree with Jake, I think the pattern isn't as important as your movement.

Just an old guy talking here but I would suggest worrying more about scent control, being quiet while stalking, and shooting accurately. In the off season, maybe hunt with a camera, getting as close as possible... its great practice for the real thing later.

This is really good advice....the camera thing really helped me when I started out....teaches you when you can move and when to freeze based on the movement and actions of the deer.....really something you cant learn without actually doing and when you arent actually hunting it takes a bit of pressure off

Ebay or Amazon. You can usually find some pretty good deals. The "big stores" are usually WAY over priced for my taste, but you can still certainly find some deals.
