Hi all from Wales, UK, As you guys probably know it's illegal to shoot anything with a bow or crossbow in the UK even though archery has huge historical importance for us. As a result I will have to just practice with targets and then take the odd trip abroad to hunt. My real interest is being capable and prepared should I ever need to hunt to survive; I figure it's about time I put the effort in to make sure I have every chance!! I did a bit of archery as a child with a recurve so I have the basics but over the last few years I picked up a couple of bows in anticipation of starting again. The first is a basic Barnett compound style bow and the second I got sent from US ebay, an Oneida Eagle; it's clearly an old model with the wrong string. I can't find anywhere to get a string in the UK and I can't even work out which string I need. Can anyone tell me, is it one size fits all with these bows or do I need to get the right one, if so, how do I work out which one to get? If I can work it out, I'll order online but also I'm coming to the US with work (Chicago then Indianapolis and then Shelbyville, Indiana) so if anyone can advise on a shop I can visit then that could be another great option! The other thing is that I believe you need quite a heavy arrow for the OE bow, can anyone guide me what I should look for? Lastly, does anyone know of any bowhunting training/courses that are available in or near any of these locations that would be available on the 22nd, 27th, 28th or 29th of April? Maybe by the time of my next trip to the US in a year or so I'll be ready to actually go hunting!! thanks, James
Welcome to the site! Depending on where you are going to be in Chicago and if you have transportation I am sure we can get you a few suggestions of some good shops to visit!
My dates have just changed, i'll be flying into chicago on the 20th May and then going to somewhere nearby but I probably will get a car hired for me........ I would extend my trip over one of the weekends if I could find a bowhunting course to do......................
