I have been looking at getting a new jig for fletching. I am using my dads which is a Jo Jan. I am a left handed shooter and this is one of the things I hate about being a lefty because it sounds like I should be shooting a left helical and everybody else I fletch for a right helical. Does this really make a difference? I have always shot new arrows which come with a 2 degree right without having any problems. I would like to start building arrows start to finish even cutting my own arrows, starting with a new jig for now. What would you suggest?
If you shoot left or right handed makes zero diiference in the fletching. I am right handed and shot left wing for years. I went to right wing to help with the tip/BH from loosening up. I recommend a Bitzenburger fletcher. It will be the last one you ever buy. You can get straight (to offset) or helical clamps in left or right wing. Mine is at least 35 years old and still works perfect.
Alright thanks I had watched a video a video last night and the guy on there made it seem like that's the way it worked. It got me thinking so I wanted to see what others thought. I had never even thought about right or left in the past because I haven't had any issues. I was wanting to get a bitzenburger just needed some verification about helicals before I went and bought the wrong one.
You want the helical to rotate the arrow in the same direction of your insert threads....keeps the heads from loosing as you shoot, or you can just tighten the up periodically......other then that it really doesn't matter much any more as not too many shoot off a shelf any more...
