    OK camera guys...

Canon BP-819 seems to be a discontinued battery. When I look it up it shows the replacement available is the BP-820.

Are they essentially the same batt? Why was the 819 discontinued? Are they both compatible with the same cams or would the 819 be chipped differently and therefore not work correctly with newer model cameras?

820 is the replacement for the 819. Do you think they would leave you high and dry? I have them both and have no problems with either in the same cam.

I know that, but that isn't my question.. I want to know if the batteries are chipped the same. Will the older 819 battery work with a newer model camera. I understand the 820 is chipped to communicate with cams set to work with the 819 but doesnt necesarily mean it goes both ways....

I get it. The manufacturer states it is a replacement. If it wasn't chipped the same way or compatible then I don't think they would mark it as such.

I ask because I found a SCREAMING deal on original Canon BP-819 NIB batts online. I'd love to order a couple but want to be sure they will comunicate with my cam.

lol you aren't following me.. I KNOW the 820 is compatible with the 819 cameras. I want to know if I can use the older 819 batt in a camera that was produced post the 819 and would run an 820. I know the 820 is chipped to communicate with all the cams. I am not sure the 819 would communicate with a newer camera

Where did you find that? I looked all over and couldnt find any CANON brand 819 batt that listed the G20. I was able to find decoded after market 819 batteries that listed the G20 but of course that defeats the purpose of my question.

Ya I did that as well and clicked every link on that page but no where was I able to find an original Canon Brand 819 battery that listed the G20. Only the aftermarket decoded 819 batteries list that model and those batteries most often do not communicate with the camera to begin with....

G20 ships with the 808 correct? If so, the 819 and 820 are listed as a alternate.

Ya the 808 would be the 60 min battery... in any event I went ahead and ordered one. Figure when it shows up and I can assure myself it works I will buy more. Too good of a deal to pass up. It is hard to find a Canon brand batt for less than. $90-$120.

I am confident it will work. If it doesn't let me know and I will buy it from you. I was trying to get through Turkey season with what I have as I didn't want to invest any more money in my setup I have now. Been trying to find a used XA10.

and that was my fear, I do believe the battery will fit onto and power the camera, I am not sure the battery will communicate though.
